So DFD I've been job searching since November and finally landed a sweet network specialist position with an electric utility and start 4/30 but the only catch is it'll be a 96 mile commute. I have experience with this type of commute as when I took my current job it was 120 miles round trip initially. I really was looking to keep the taco long term but with this commute I can't be getting 20mpg. Rather than go down the hole with a 5k car and questionable service history I think I am doing a relatively smart thing and looking for a decent commuter car for around 20k. The two main ones I am considering are the Accord Sport and Mazda 6 Sport. Both are very appealing because they still have plenty of space for the dogs, 35mpg, NA 4cyl to avoid long term issues with turbos, and should be rock solid reliable. Two others on the list are an Elantra Sport and a Civic Si. I don't think the Si is a serious contender because I don't want to run premium gas and they are a bit pricey compared to the bigger mid size ones I'm looking at. Currently I think the Mazda 6 is my leading choice as I like the styling better than the Accord and I've heard nothing but good things about their interior.

I am going to check this out today at lunch
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/deta ... /overview/

I was leaning towards making a move sometime in the summer but this one seems tailor made for me. Sport, MT, color I prefer, low miles, and that price seems really low to me. Only thing I would have to do is detint the headlights and tails. By my estimates even with negative equity in the Taco I'd be saving around $350 a month on payment and gas compared to if I start commuting in the Taco. Plus it really sets me up well in a year to pick up an ND Miata as a toy.

I think these seem like solid options to my dilemma but tell me how I am wrong DFD.

It's still a possibility as I like the 2018 refresh a lot and I may not make a move on this one. Just would be more coin than this specific example

6 is a great buy on the used market. They depreciate hard.

Is the 96 miles each way, or round trip? Guessing round trip. I don't miss those days..

When they changed the interiors from 2015 to 2016 I got 6k off MSRP on a new one.

New is worth a look at least with the new update

That’s hella solid.

Yeah that or a new Accord Would be good. The 10AT and 2.0T combo of the Accord has me swooning.

The new ones are very very very nice inside. New seats, new dash, more sound deadening. If you're gonna be crushing highway miles, it's a great car.

Also, the new turbo... :meboosta:
I would pay for more power and sound deadening.

I guess if you want the deal, you have to take a left over doe

I would not be happy with the interior had I paid MSRP. Factory radio was a mess so I replaced with NWX8200. Bose speakers came alive after that.

Styling was more to my preference than a 16 but materials felt cheap.

You know, I don't really GAF about car audio at all. But I think I'd be inclined to pay for an upgraded radio after my iphone-in-a-cup STI stereo experience. My friend's new Impreza has the HK stereo and it sounds quite good. Also has car play which is nice for dat :scrooge: navi option.

I think that kind of shit really matters if you're in your car for a long time every day.

2014/2015 materials definitely feel cheap. 2016-2017.5 was a big step up, and the 2018 is very impressive at the price point this car plays at.
Yeah. Really doe every new car I get into anymore has a pretty damn nice interior. Touchy feely wise anyway.

Well this might be the shortest tire kicking thread in history. I actually bought the 6 I posted on Friday. Super easily deal, I was good with their price and they gave me 27k for the Taco which was top of KBB range so I just decided to pull the trigger rather than wait 3 months for no real reason and spend a ton on gas commuting.

Only one pic for now
Image
Because after having the car 5 hours it got backed into by a hit and run driver. I was incredibly lucky though because a waitress saw it happen and got the plate as well as another waitress knew the party it was that just left and was able to contact the driver. Some stupid 17 year old kid that had his license less than 6 months. So the photos don't show it well but the fender is creased in a few places and needs replace, its rubbing on the passenger door and broke paint, bumper needs paint work and new bracket, hood is out of alignment, headlamp isn't cracked but has no power going to it.

I dropped it off at the body shop yesterday morning and got a nissan altima as a rental (first time driving a CVT and holy shit is it terrible). Didn't get a full estimate yet but they will call me on Monday about it. The shop is booked for 2 weeks and they said a 3-4 day repair once they start so looks like I'll be in the rental for at least 3 weeks. Claims adjuster is supposed to call me tomorrow and get rolling with all that. I'll need some advice on diminished value and how to push for a fair amount. The police department that filed the report uses a site called crashdocs which is run by car fax so no way it doesn't show up on there and I'll be boned whenever I do eventually trade it in.

As far as the car I really liked it and am very impressed. For those that missed the listing it is a 2017 Mazda6 Sport with manual transmission with 4800 miles for $16,500. Previous owner was an older woman that had it 5 months and decided she didn't want stick shift. Came with the windows tinted and WeatherTech floor liners for front and rear. Interior for being the base model is excellent, clutch is very light and transmission is very nice, just a shade shy of Honda in my opinion. Really looking forward to a substantial savings on my monthly payment and a huge savings on gas. I was averaging over 32mpg in the 100 miles I got to drive it. I have a few mods in mind, first would be removing the tint on the headlights and tail lights, debaging the trunk, I'll need a roof rack come winter for my ski rack, I'll be doing a winter tire set up, and I am considering a set of TSW Nurburgrings ( had them on my mk6 and loved them) just would have to decide to stick with 17's and put the stock tires on it or upsize to 18s and get a full package.

Example of wheels I was looking at

Thanks, yeah I was livid but kept my cool with the cop and their insurance so hopefully everything goes smoothly. I have used this shop 3 times in the past so I trust their work. Overall this purchase might have been the smartest car move I've ever made now hopefully I can just get the repair done and enjoy it.

Brutal, stupid kid. Hope the fix goes well and you get to enjoy the car once you get it back. Its a very nice car! Surprised a little that a chick would tint her lights, it seems uncharacteristic to me, but stranger things have happened.

Yeah I was real skeptical when they told me that but when I went to add my phone to the bluetooth the other one listed was Jolynne or something so I guess they might not have been lying lol
