Since I was nominated for being 2.0, I would like to announce that my mom will love driving my half broken car.

What I think happened:
1.0 authorized the replacement of the crangshaft and hpfp and possibly timing chain and tensioner for $2.5k and no charge for the loaner.
Car runs well enough that he's DDing it again nfg.
Thoughts of replacement are on the back burner.
He's too embarrassed to let us know.
What I think will happen:
Fuel will eventually seep down to the crank case via scored cylinder wall and/or bad ring and engine will for good.
will come back here and and wonder how this could have happened to him and wonder what he should do now.
We will give him at least 95 pages of good advice (and good ribbing) that will go unheeded.
Rinse and repeat.

Even if the compression test turns out ok, if there was piston to valve contact, there could be damage to the piston that won't show up immediately. Since it wasn't scoped, we have no idea.
He should trade it in immediately, but won't.
