Ultimately, we still don't know what broke his crangshaft so we should assume it's going to happen again
Well they all go out at around 80k Einstein. It's a wear item.
Gonna switch it out at my next blinker fluid flush

Looks like it might turn out ok, but I still worry about the lil guy.
Even if the compression test turns out ok, if there was piston to valve contact, there could be damage to the piston that won't show up immediately. Since it wasn't scoped, we have no idea.
He should trade it in immediately, but won't.
ehhhh..... if it didn't bend a valve he will be ok.

What I think happened:
1.0 authorized the replacement of the crangshaft and hpfp and possibly timing chain and tensioner for $2.5k and no charge for the loaner.
Car runs well enough that he's DDing it again nfg.
Thoughts of replacement are on the back burner.
He's too embarrassed to let us know.
What I think will happen:
Fuel will eventually seep down to the crank case via scored cylinder wall and/or bad ring and engine will for good.
will come back here and and wonder how this could have happened to him and wonder what he should do now.
We will give him at least 95 pages of good advice (and good ribbing) that will go unheeded.
Rinse and repeat.
What I think happened:
probs.
Where are these mangos?

jesus i'm like 40k over on my crangshafts...and I'm stage 2! My service advisor told me that cuts 10k off the crangshaft change interval easy.
Picking car up today. Bringing loaner back 29 days later. Almost 1300 miles driven, crazy!
Received call yesterday that the car is fixed, fuel pump and camshaft replaced. The service adviser drove it 6 miles, and the service manager drove it 25 miles after that.
Going to try to bring it to KMD Tuning next week to run a compression test and check pistons and valves. If all is well, at this time, I don't think I want to be buying a new car. I will be super careful with it.

And if it's not good, heading right to trade?
Let’s not get ahead of our own advice

DFD. The forum where everybody makes the same choices and then tells anybody trying to join the club that they are the stupidest motherfucker to ever walk the earth.

Yep, won't be worth it to me to keep it then. Promise.

If you'd be willing to share I'd be curious to see the final bill.
You got it. It should be around $1800 + tax.
Does that include one crangshaft or two? Loaner fees waved or extra? My dealer charges 15/day but 25/day isnt terrible considering most rentals come out to like 60/day.
No, that would be a warranty part and would be returned back to VW or disposed of at VW’s discretion. No warranty parts are ever returned to the customer.
