For a truck or a jeep? Sure. Corvettes must be stolen at gunpoint or :gtfo:
That is the market right now ... suvs or trucks or crosstrannys. Sedans/sports cars are lame

This is an ideal car for me. I know the C5 and thus C5.5 well enough to be able to do all the engine work myself. In fact, I'd enjoy it as a simple project, so it would be great to find something at a discount that I could work on. Though to your point, I suspect there's more issues lurking with this example, and a never ending project is more of a headache than fun.

I understand the head work needs done on all of these....or does it? When did this ever get fixed. 2014 plus Z28s have this issue?

From what I understand, it's all LS7's. I haven't taken the time to get into the weeds about the details, but apparently they will drop valves and nuke the bottom end. None are immune. Has something to do with the valve guides.

Easy enough to swap the heads. Great opportunity to put some CNC'd heads on to upgrade while you're at it.

I just looked it up again to make sure the numbers were right: LS7 head fix is about $1200 assuming you remove, ship, and re-install them yourself. Under $30k for a 3100 lb 500 hp V8 beast is too much money?

We have people falling over themselves to buy 5000 lb 300 hp :jalepenis: trucks for that much money...

I think it's a steal, and if I didn't have my car would probably be making arrangements to get to PA...

So this is basically the Porsche IMS bearing? Random catastrophic failure that gives little to no warning and causes a shitload to fix if it :nuke: ?

So anything happening on the poverty 4x4 pricing? Now that everyone is buying new?
Looks like
TJs are 10-13k for ones with sub 130k miles + non ragged interiors/exteriors
4Runners (3rd gen) are around 7-10k for ones with sub 140k miles and maintenance histories
Xterras are around 6-10k for nicer ones, but seem to be ticking time bombs, with shit transmission/radiator issues. Also re-selling one seems like it would suck also.

Not exactly.

1. It is detectable without a complete engine teardown.
2. When you fix it you can also add SRS BZNS POWER with fancy heads, cam and valvetrain.

Sounds like it...but the fix is nowhere near the level of cost and completely. Heads on Ellis are way easier than yanking a Porsche drivetrain.

Ah. The preventative maintenance cost is similar though. But yeah :nuke: cost would be way higher on the Pcar.

Honestly an older Grand Cherokee is probably the one to get. Old 4Runners ride like shit. The TJ is a piece of farm equipment. The Xterra seems nice but you can get more in the GC for similar cost overall.

Official LS7 "crate" cost is 14k

I can't recreate my "mistake" from 2005... bought a 2 year old JGC for 18k then... Loved that SUV, the only reason I sold was due to $5 a gallon and 15mpg... of course.... back in 2009 the sky was falling in terms of gas prices.

Well. I still kinda think it's the one to go for if you're looking at poverty used 4x4s. Nicer interior and ride and features than most others, way better engine in the V8, and as capable off road as any 4Runner.

The V8 seems like it is popping as of late. Tons of JGC with "rod knock" for whatever reason listed on craigslist.
Mine was nearly flawless for the 75k miles I have had it... It needed an AC condenser due to something poking a hole into it and 1 Cam sensor. The only two issues it had in the 5 years I have had it.

3rd gen 4 runner is not 4800lbs and 189" long 74" wide and 75" tall... the GX is a porky pig.
GX is 5" longer, 5" taller and 4" wider and 1000lbs heavier.

You can fix the heads for $1,200 in parts. A job that's not impossible to do yourself, but a shop would probably charge $1k to do. So out the door for $2.2k.

NO WAY you'll get an IMS bearing changed for that. And no way you can do it yourself.

Actually in the 98-06 cars it is right around $1800-2500 to have the IMS replaced. :iono:
