Forgot about the teal escort! Not exactly the same but yeah kind of close , this looks a bit darker to me. I just like that it stands out in a sea of grey.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 7:25 am1990s Ford teal/green my dad had an Escort that was the same color.Tarspin wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:41 pm
996 overall feels a bit to me, don't get me wrong I'd love one in this condition for $25k.
I'd pay more if it was stock and had a color like this one, i know some people will think that spending more for a color is , but my response to that statement is this:
The right thing to do is go 997 or newer. Saw some banter about is reliable but need to go back to see if the 997s are a risky buy. Chances are one needs to spend 70k-90k on a Porsche that they can expect to make money on.

I can't get on board with a 996, the ONLY good thing about them is the price. P car prices have gone full retard as we are all aware, but a 997 is one of my faves, as it significantly improved on looks/interiors/performance.

From what I can tell a 2005 997 is the . Not crazy expensive like the 09+ cars, but has the older style single row IMS bearing that doesn't require total engine disassembly for replacement. Buy the IMS solution and have it installed for a few grand, then drive on style.

That is correct but it is also the first mod year from a time when p cars didn’t have ultimate funding and had catastrophic issues all over their line up. They didn’t get good until 2013-2014 2005 is a whopping 14 model years old also... you start having a lot of “old car “ issues. IMO the only Porsche that is somewhat worth owning is the 2013-2015 cayman/boxster cheap ones are in the low low 40s, they are relatively new and relatively reliable allowing for trouble free enjoyment. Anything else starts to be a compromisecoogles wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 11:11 am From what I can tell a 2005 997 is the . Agree those 2014-ish Caymans are the only Porsches that I can see as justifiable. Other than that, a 1999 911 I guess but they have a much different look and are generally hated. The rest are a "thinking with your " purchase, so just ignore reason and get the one you want.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 11:35 amThat is correct but it is also the first mod year from a time when p cars didn’t have ultimate funding and had catastrophic issues all over their line up. what a coincidence! one of my high school friends dad drives a green escort and his mom with her first gen Expedition. Unfortunately he passed away due to overdose, just a month before I got my mk6.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 7:25 am1990s Ford teal/green my dad had an Escort that was the same color.Tarspin wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:41 pm

It's ~4 years, 2009-12 vs 2013-16, and they're smaller and lighter and at least a little cheaper with better steering. Performance is indeed about the same.max225 wrote:Issue is it is 7-8 years older than a comparable cayman at the same price while offering 0 performance advantages.

Cayman S is a few inches shorter about an inch more narrow and about an inch lower, and around 200-300lbs lighter unless that's what you meant about the cayman and not the 911.troyguitar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 1:18 pmIt's ~4 years, 2009-12 vs 2013-16, and they're smaller and lighter and at least a little cheaper with better steering. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/ ... 38915.html 61k miles carrera 4 with 61k miles $43k
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/d/ ... 46948.html 2014 Cayman S with 30k miles for 49k
The 911 from 09-12 is REALLY RARE as that is in the middle of the financial crisis, finding one is nearly impossible, especially with comparable miles to a 13-16 Cayman S as they are much newer.
911 seem to be priced around 40-65k depending year and spec... a "fair" comparison is 09 to 13 gayman which is around the same price range but with less miles and quite a few less years, and the above-mentioned attributes. So it seems like the appropriate decision to me. the cayman also comes with the best automatic in the business vs the "long geared" manuals blah blah

I meant say 2009 Cayman vs 2014 Cayman or 2009 911 vs 2014 911. I can't afford or use an S model even though it's "not that much more" - a 9x1 is also "not that much more" than a 9x7.2 and a 911 is not that much more than a Cayman, but you add that all up and a 991 911S is at least double the price of a 987.2 Cayman.

I was using the price points as a comparison. You can't get a 2009 911 for under 40k, that hasn't been beat to shit with a branded title or is an automatic convertible with 70k miles.troyguitar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 1:40 pm I meant say 2009 Cayman vs 2014 Cayman or 2009 911 vs 2014 911.
