I'd love to see a salesman take a sawzall to a Gladiator in an attempt to sell a regular cab truck.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:26 pmYou’re in luck as that’s the going rate for one after discounts ! When can you come in for a test driveHuckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:19 pm
I won't buy any new vehicle with manual everything. Not for $30K. Not for $10K. I require power windows, power locks, A/C, and a leather-wrapped wheel in my vehicles. A truck with those things is worth $30K to me.

That's the challenge.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:27 pmYes, because I'll forego the regular cab, move to the Frontier, and save the extra money.
Reg cab buyers tend to be value buyers. Wranglers/Gladiators are no long value vehicles.

Jeep has never been a value brand, and obviously the attempt to take them even higher up market may be back firing as we speak, considering the level of discounting that is required to keep volumes upDetroit wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:30 pmThat's the challenge.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:27 pm

You used to be able to get base Wranglers for "cheap" I'm talking YJ's and TJ's. Hell, I remember buying my 2012 JKUR with no options on it for $32k in 2012. That same Jeep is $10k more today. The pricing has crept up over time and now...they might be too much.

You had a bare bones model in 2012, and that was when Jeep didn't discount... now you can get 5k off by walking in and around 8k off or so otherwise... you can easily get a bare bones rubi for 35k... that's not that much more than 2012... especially considering inflation.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:37 pmYou used to be able to get base Wranglers for "cheap" I'm talking YJ's and TJ's. I got like $1k off my 2012 with a supplier discount I qualified for through my employer at the time. Felt solid about that too.

FCA decided that it is time to play the "off msrp" game with the wranglers also, so they simply raised the ATP by 7-10k, and are now discounting it back down to the 3-4k increase it should have been from day 1.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:04 pmYea, true...I guess the game just changed.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:01 pm

As the Wrangler keeps trying to move up in price, it is competing with vehicles that have much better refinement, including vehicles in Jeep's own line-up. If I'm spec'ing out a JLU with a V6 and 8 speed, I don't see any reason to select it over a Grand Cherokee with the same drivetrain, independent suspension, and a better handle on cabin noise.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:37 pmYou used to be able to get base Wranglers for "cheap" I'm talking YJ's and TJ's. A lot of people value the removable top and doors and industry-leading off-road capability highly. It takes a certain type of buyer. There's a reason Jeep sells so many Grand Cherokees still. They come in looking for a Wrangler, realize the Grand Cherokee fits what they want better, and leave with that. Sale's a sale.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:07 pmAs the Wrangler keeps trying to move up in price, it is competing with vehicles that have much better refinement, including vehicles in Jeep's own line-up. That "research" is complete bullshit then. The "researchers" should spend 3 minutes on any of the forums/facebook groups and see that LEDs/HIDs (and air damn removal) are some of the most talked about mods done. Usually within a few days/weeks of owning the truck.
Oh well, luckily the aftermarket exists to correct these oversights.
Things are the opposite at FCA. It shows in the differences in products IMO.

Sure why not but to make that a requirement is wow. I view trucks as work vehicles. I’d have no problem driving a work truck spec with just AC and power windows as the “options”.
