Yep. How in the name of the Virgin Mary and all the saints is an 1800 mile road trip with your woman in which all you are doing is covering ground even a remotely good idea? 3600 miles on your car, 1800 on the truck, all the fking gas, pissed off AZN. Wow no.

One thing you’re missing. It’s close to Austin, I have friends there. I may make it a plandemic party trip.... they open out there, never closed really. Visit a few nice sites ok the way. I used to travel 5-6 times a year ... been home for 7 months and going absolutely bonkers with the fires and no air to breathe in the last month listening to dysons cryingDesertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:59 pmYep. I legitimately enjoy this kind of shit. I love road trips, and it's a great way to break in your new with some fun memz.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:15 pmOne thing you’re missing. My thinking here also. This is not exactly done to save money, and it would allow for some entertainment that is much much needed at this point in time.D Griff wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:58 pmI legitimately enjoy this kind of shit. Just solo if isn't in.
Solo road tripping is great. Stop wherever you want, whenever you want. I miss that life.

I did.
It came from a YouTube video I watched.
Also the N20 has issues, so I'm doubly watching it.
Ignoring the OCI the factory sets and going with good synthetic every 5k miles seems to be the answer for both the GMC and 328i.

Whatever. Clearly I and OEM engineers are morans.
It's a bit odd to see in 2020, but they have so much life.
For a towing package doe, I'd like to see discs all around.

Wait we sorta have similar engines. What’s the issue with 10k OCIs ?

Ugh ... another timing chain disaster. It is abundantly it makes engines disposable by 150k miles for most brands.
I was going to go with 10k intervals on the mini but perhaps I should rethink it... modern oils should last that long imo, but I don’t want a $3500 timing chain job.

I'd change it @ 5k.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:44 pmUgh ... another timing chain disaster. It is abundantly it makes engines disposable by 150k miles for most brands.

FWIW it's not a massively wide spread issue, but 100k - 120k is probably the max I'd go on the stock timing chain/guides even with frequent oil changes.
Dig into it more on your car.
I know gaskets and oil leaks are another common issue on the N20.

Yea technically I have a “B48” Motor but I’m assuming it is mostly the same. I’m at 33k now so I probably have another 5 years before I need to “care” I’ll even have it thenMelon wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:49 pmI'd change it @ 5k.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:44 pm

FWIW after 8 mostly trouble free years my stepmoms Q5 popped a turbo... 115k miles ...

Yep, and that was the plan actually. Towing pkg included trans cooler, trailer brake controller, rear disks, and rear LSD.Melon wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:36 pmDetroit wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 6:49 pm

Yours is the successor. Most of the issues are one the early N20 motors. Mine is even under warranty for a few more months due to a class action lawsuit.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:51 pmYea technically I have a “B48” Motor but I’m assuming it is mostly the same. I'm missing it because you didn't say it. How I am supposed to render judgment on your personal decisions without the complete picture?max225 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:15 pmOne thing you’re missing. Some are, some aren't.
The older stuff like the M20/30 is tractor reliable.
Some of the E36/46 engines are equally bulletproof.
Once the 00's hit BMW forgot how to make timing chain guides and valve seals.

It will be interesting to see how the B58 holds up. They put it in everything.....3,4,5 and 7 series.

It would be cool to see it actually be long-term reliable, as it is a pretty badass motor and a lot of stuff would be cool at the super cheap used BMW prices.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 3:33 pmIt will be interesting to see how the B58 holds up.
