I hope so.

I went with section 7, about halfway up. I think that should be a decent full course view with closer visuals on the jump and the longest section of pavement ending in a dirt corner. I expect the action in that corner to be pretty fun to watch.

No spoilers, but watched the entire F1 race live via Watch ESPN this morning. No commercials, Sky Sports feed all the way through. As it should be. It seems they got the message after screwing up Austrailia. Hopeful that this is indicative of expectations for the rest of the season.

Anyone have kids that race? Just talking to my wife this morning about getting my 3 year old a gocart. Currently he has a 12 volt powerwheel that he just drives directly into immovable objects at full speed so it maybe a while before he graduates to gas engines.

Live sports that aren't regularly broadcast over the air are the only reason I want to get cable again. Problem still is the channels I want don't come on the basic packages.

Autox in the FV went about how I expected but worse than I hoped.

It's even better that Porsche isn't in any top-tier racing series right now. "Hey guys, so, what should we do until this Formula E thing starts?" "How about we go around Spa faster than a Formula 1 car, ja?" "Ja!"

i heard that shit all weekend.

:fax: is onto something with it being the amount of down force from f1 cars. I would say its the extreme hot/cold cycles with moderate use of cars on track.

I really hope they do something and the race can continue. Jalop put out a little hit piece on the track which I did not appreciate. We need more race tracks of that caliber. DONT SHIT ON THE ONES THAT TRY.

its the downforce from the f1 cars that is hurting the tracks. Same issue at other tracks where motogp and F1 race.

Motogp riders bitch non-stop about track surfaces that aren't perfect. Up until the last year or 2, Indy was always on the receiving end of the rider's ire - though there were legitimate track surface differences in different sections of the track. They eventually resurfaced the track with the same aggregate and those complaints went away.

With regard to cars actually ruining surfaces - I'd say it's as much about braking forces and down force introducing braking bumps as anything else. Putnam was pretty notorious for some nasty braking pumps all the way from the start of braking until the apex until the re-surface in the fall of 2016. By the end of last year, the bumps had already started to reappear.

Like any surface it comes down to how it's maintained as conditions arise. Grinding, sealing, and patching sections are all ways of helping smooth the track outside of a full-repave. But then you get into traction inconsistencies, which GP riders hate. I'd imagine the MotoAmerica guys were pretty comfortable given the condition of some of the tracks they race

There's also sports car races and track days with heavier cars at COTA, even in the heat of summer. Even though they went 8ft (I think?) deep, the ground underneath it is known to shift around.

The shimmy between 18 and 19 was the most noticeable on the Yamahas and Suzukis, the Ducs, KTMs, Aprillas didn't seem to be impacted as much, as least, from the spectator perspective.

They also had a hell of a flood a few years back the weekend after a torrential downpour on F1 weekend. I would not be surprised if that had a negative impact.
