:wrong: you need 40s and lockers + spice rack.
If I had to make food up there I'd have been fucked with bland ass :crang: style flavorless chicken.

I had a lot of full size :truk: guys laughing at me, and actually rather surprised that it made it as far as it did. :aintcare: my legs work and I can walk it if needed, unlike their fat gut asses. Why are most overlanders fat retired people?

Yea this thing is a monster... powered by a torqueless V6... this thing is going to be a deathtrap going up a hill with 6500lbs strapped to the back
They wouldn't have rated it as they did if it was going to be a "death trap", but indeed that engine seems underpowered a bit.
Rumors of a new straight 6 engine as a Pentastar replacement seem promising. It may be exactly what the truck needs.

3 speed auto? :nope:
2003 came with the 4 speed auto. :impressive:

I'd like to grab a TJ with the 4.0 and 5 speed, that should be a damn near bullet proof combo.

That would be awesome but fca needs about 3 years to work out their kinks out of the engines. So .... it may be too far out ... the 3.6 is reliable AF. Post 2013

Just watching out for fellow brethren feel free to chart your own path.
But fubared heads, overheating issues, leaking rear main seals, cracked exhaust manifolds and a plethora of other old car issues really make it a tough vehicle to own.

It is one of the easiest to work on and cheapest to fix engines out there, if not the cheapest easiest. But reliability... well... depends on the of the beholder.

I also share Max's unpopular opinion that the Pentastar is actually the better motor. 4.0 is cool but the reliability is overblown, plenty of them dying every day.

If you swapped a 4.0 into a Taco the truck would last 3 million miles, accelerate like a rocket ship and stop on a dime thanks to the drum brakes

Even the newest 4.0s are really old. Pentastar came out 5 years after the 4.0 stopped production. TBH, nobody knows how durable a Pentastar is yet. We'll see in 20 years.

How many times has a 4.0 stranded someone? Sure things need to be fixed on them, but the times they leave you stranded on the side of the road is minimal.

Old stuff sucks. I share the opinion that the Pentastar is the better motor for 99% of the buying public. Every single person I know that owns/owned a 4.0L inline 6 Jeep engine had the head crack, and motor sucking down oil like Riley Reid sucking down Mandingo. Plus.... these vehicles are just flat out fucking old at this point, and come with old car nickel and dime bullshit problems.

Exactly. Who's to say the Pentastar vehicles won't have similar or worse problems in 20 years?

The head cracking thing is so overblown. It's limited to 00-03 vehicles...a fraction of the overall 4.0 population. And the damned thing is a lego...easy to swap the head for cheap.

But old cars gonna old. There's no way around that. It's more than just the engine's fault.

You can nearly sit in the engine bay to work on the 4.0. But old cars are gonna have old car problems no matter what. Old Jeeps are fairly simple to work on doe.
