zip is 08049. Its a super small town between the Whitehorse Pike and Blackhorse Pike. Also next to the Lawnside Lowes
Yeah, you're just over an hour away from me. Will have to make it down for bbq and/or 40k sometime.

I thought it was funny that google thought the McDoe was important enough to be the town pic.
Totally. Everywhere in NJ seems an hour from everything.. 295 is a good road to drive on though, its like the NJ Autobahn.

Where are you?
I live just outside St. Louis, Missouri.

I haven't tried.

Where is Chesterfield in relation to you?

There are also independent game stores all over the place that sell GW stuff and other brands with tables to play on and communities of players.

Online retailers like thewarstore.com are usually cheaper but it's good to support the local places.

They will try to sell you a starter set, glues, paint set, brushes, clippers, a knife, and probably an army book you won't need in about a month.

Before you buy anything check with us, we can tell you how the armies work and the best units to start with. Do not buy their glues or tools - they're REQUIRED to try selling you that shit. I'll give you the tool rundown if you're interested.

I'm definitely interested in at least learning more about the game, but don't have the time or money to dedicate to buying anything right now. Have to get through school for the next year first, and any extra money right now is being put away and is spoken for cause of the kid coming in October. But as time frees up when I'm done with school, and money allows, I could see trying to get into this since there's a local shop I could try to play with others at.

Get Dawn of War, an older RTS game on PC, to get a feel for what the armies and lore is like. It's a decent intro to the universe and a close enough experience to the tabletop that it might help pick an army.

I started out the same way and chose the most elite army in the game with the fewest models just so I wouldn't have to buy and paint too much. Grey Knights were also the most challenging army in the game to play at the time and now I've got bins full of this crap years later.

Went by the store today for my Fantasy skirmish rules (this company does both a future and fantasy game systems) and took some pics of the stuff people have put in the display case.

A couple Space Marine honor guard units with their Primarch, same units by different painters.

Genestealer cultists with Tyranid Warriors, Blizzard copied heavily from this when they designed the Zerg.

Random collection of individual models. The big mech in the back is a knight titan who's like a foot tall.

A bunch of terrain on a 4'x4' board for Kill Team, a separate 40k ruleset meant for skirmish games where it's just a handful of models on each side. The rules are far more nuanced for squad level tactics. They still haven't finished painting it all. All that belongs to a couple of regulars who leave it at the store for everyone to use.

Some of my rockets. I built the Saturn V about 30-35 years ago and it's only flown 3 times. The other one I just built last year but I haven't flown it yet. Newspaper stand for size reference.Image

How does that land in one piece?

At a point beyond apogee a parachute deploys that lets it land safely. The Saturn V, being as big as it is, has 2 parachutes.

That is the logical solution I should have assumed myself.

They really aren't all that different than any solid fuel rocket that NASA may fly other than size, so the assumption of parachute recovery is the correct assumption.

Haha thanks.
It flies pretty cool, too. It takes off relatively slowly then comes down with 2 parachutes, and the capsule comes down on its own 'chute.

Last time was 2 summers ago with my nephew. So I flew it once right after I built it, then it sat in my mom's attic for almost 30 years until 2015, when we flew it 2 more times. Funny story about the 2nd flight of the day; just as I pushed the launch button a gust of wind tipped the launch over so actually took off about 30* above vertical and headed toward a group having a picnic! :lolol:
It landed harmlessly several yards short of them :doe:

As soon as the kid gets on the stick and builds the new rocket I bought for him 2 Christmas's ago, we'll go flying again.

Surprised that no one asked why I have a newspaper stand in my basement...
