It's like our sobriety. We can be open about it with certain people, even those that disagree with us, but usually after knowing someone a good while.Irish wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 12:54 pmAs a general rule of thumb, and in general company I keep my opinions to myself..... I went further than I intended to here and I vented a bit more about than I should have
I hope I don't live to regret it but its out there now.....
I do hate the fact that many of us feel we have to tiptoe though...... in a perfect world we (as a people) could express our opinions and beliefs and civilly teach one another a thing or two.... nothing is learned in an echo chamber.....
You are likely aware of this, but this saying is used in the military to help recruits with saluting....the idea being its better to salute the wrong person than NOT salute the right one....
People disagree with sobriety? I don't practice it as often as I should but that's personal weakness, not disagreement.Melon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:51 pmIt's like our sobriety. No, not sobriety, being in recovery. I should have worded that better.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 1:34 pmPeople disagree with sobriety? I don't practice it as often as I should but that's personal weakness, not disagreement.
Got it agreed that is fucked. So you slay the dragon but people are better than you for never having had to fight the dragon in the first place? Plus there's plenty of people out there doing enough pills and booze to really make an impression at Betty Ford but these people "have it under control"Melon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:12 pmNo, not sobriety, being in recovery. A lot of people hold opinions about those who have had or once had a substance abuse problem.

Yeah the older you get the more friends you will have that opted out at some juncture. I think I have about 6ish now, not including the aforementioned. Some are just full tilt addicts. Some people just aren't any good at drinking/if it isn't fun don't do it. It hasn't changed my relationship with any of them.Apex wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:27 pmDesertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:19 pm

Many people don't even believe that the "dragon" exists..... they see excessive drinking and using as merely a character flaw or being weak willed.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 2:19 pmGot it agreed that is fucked.
