:whocares: about weed. It is legal for 1/2 the country now (by population). They should, however, erase drug arrest records for anyone sitting in jail on weed charges and set them free immediately.

There is no denying weed is a drug though... better or worse than booze is debatable.... both have many many side effects. Drugs are bad mkaay.

:stfu:

that is simply wrong. 9 states do not hold 50% of the population. as 2017

US - 325.7
WA 7.406
OR 4.143
CA 39.54
NV 2.998
CO 5.607
AK .739
ME 1.336
VT .623
MA 6.86

so 69.252 M people live in legal state. That's only 21.1% of the US population. You are so far in the CA bubble. There is a lot of work to get the rest of the US to understand and enjoy freedom and less imprisonment.

And having no clue about the population base doesn't help in meaningful discussion.

Sure, but thats just your moral approach on it. You drink a lot. A long as YOU dont harm someone else in an altered state of mind, your actions have yet to harm some else.

That is a victim less action.

My dance moves on Saturday afternoon while :drunk: tho may have had some victims.

:wrong: again my :225: mang. It widely varies between states' laws. Sure Cali was a joke but Louisiana has had "laws" on the books since 1970s. Still very illegal and you go directly to jail for posession. Yet its counted in the 31 "states with laws"

That is a fake news stat. Far from apples to apples.

The issue with booze is that it makes you think you’re not drunk until it’s too late and you’re balls deep in trouble

I was saying that both are drugs, and it's difficult to say which one is worse, so treat them both equally. I am fairly lax on drugs tough. There are other drugs that are far less dangerous IMO, that both of these that are highly illegal as well.

Make em all legal, and let the heroin junkies kill themselves off naturally. :aintcare:

Of course, it varies between states. I am saying most of that shit is easy enough to get for 50% of the country? Obviously, this whole state level BS is just nonsense. We need to have federal laws that are the same by state.

This is done in order to create a better society in a way, drugs can create a :disgust: wasteland. But like I said before, you either allow all or none, because debating which one is "worse" for a society or an individual is downright impossible.

sure. I invite that "wasteland"

Been doing okay in Portgual since 2001. I just don't think you will have a bunch of new heroin junks running to get high. Addiction has a lot of faces and does effect lots of people. But I'm sure if we invested a small portion of prison money into recovery and treatment, we'd be better off as a society.

In 2016 alone, an estimated 64,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses—more than the combined death tolls for Americans in the Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq Wars. In Portugal, meanwhile, the drug-induced death rate has plummeted to five times lower than the E.U. average and stands at one-fiftieth of the United States’. Its rate of HIV infection has dropped from 104.2 new cases per million in 2000 to 4.2 cases per million in 2015. Drug use has declined overall among the 15- to 24-year-old population, those most at risk of initiating drug use.
Max, I just say there has to be a better approach than locking up people.

We have run out of prison space. The system is notably broken and the US has the highest incarceration rate in the entire world. How is continuing the same broken policy going to work with the rise of the current opiod addiction epidemic.

Just saying its time to try and alternative. We know what the last 50 years of bad policy has done.

Portugal is a fantastic case study, in a market where there just arent many things to observe for success OR failures of "radical" policy.

Use a fact to prove me wrong or challenge my opinion. Not "drugs are bad for society mkay"

I think we both see the problems. Lets look at a manageable solution.

Like I said, make it all legal or none. The in-between shit we're in now is just :fullretard: Alcohol is a terrible drug. Yet you can basically buy it from 6am to 2am in almost every state every 100 feet.

It would be interesting to run a social experiment of that sort. Just have one state say, Alaska since it is isolated enough where you can't just drive there to high and let those guys be the guinea pigs for the rest of the country.
