It is annoyingly cold here, lows around 40 this morning and the next couple of days, after some fantastic spring weather. Otherwise things are good, went on a bike ride this morning, working now, heading to Myrtle Beach tonight to chill and get this weekend or something (not really sure what we'll do at the beach as it will be unseasonably cold).

SC is a possibility. Anything to do there ?Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:42 pmCharleston SC. Good weather in May, interesting town, on the water. Also, Covid never really happened there, it was all just bullshit Joel.
New Orleans but the density there...........maybe November.
Nola is probably no, due to a few factors.

I have never been to Charleston but I would like to. There are some nice resorts there and the town is interesting from a historical perspective, and should be spot on weather wise. I just cannot get into Florida despite much discussion of it on here as of late. If you are simply looking to hit the sauce and hang out, I have friends who like staying on Marco Island in FL. I would also be interested in going to the Florida Keys for Tarpon and bonefishing.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:43 pmSC is a possibility. Also Virgin Islands, but that's the same flight length problems East Coast people get going to Hawaii.

Charleston is pretty great. Great places to stay and some of the best dining in the SE, if not the country. Folly beach is decent but touristy. There's some local beaches that are smaller, but a bit less crowded.

Puerto Rico or some other US island territory.
I would love to live in Boston if it wasn't so fucking cold and dark, that place is indeed fantastic from a culture/scenery/architecture/history perspective.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 9:49 amEverywhere else had its ups and downs, this place only has downs. Annoyingly I have now lived in several shitty rural/industrial towns over the past 10 years, hopefully this will be the end of that trend.
Rankings for me would go something like this:
Tie at #1 Cambridge/Boston, MA and Lawrenceburg, KY - Even considering MA is kind of cheating since it was college and I lived off loans and credit cards, but it was awesome to be surrounded by interesting smart people and experience culture beyond God, Guns, and Freedom - living in that place showed me that I don't actually hate people, I just hate most people in this country... KY was the best "real life" place so far in that it was warm-ish and affordable and we were 30-60 minutes from some decent cities with a non-zero amount of 'cosmopolitan' people/stuff around, though it was still too Southern culture-wise for us.
#3 Metro Detroit - Grew up there, it's what I know. It's fine.
#4 Bloomsburg, PA - Tiny town in the middle of nowhere but it does have a medium sized college so there was at least some activity besides raising kids and going to church.
#5 Williamsport, PA - Slightly larger town in the middle of nowhere. Somehow waaaaay more expensive than it should have been considering almost everyone there is poor. We were treated very much like we didn't belong there, but we did at least have a nice house.
#666 Corning. Fuck this place. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I've also found Kentucky to be surprisingly
Fond memories of karaoke at that place in Lexington. Louisville has treated me well the few times I've been also.
I would skip NOLA for some more months until COVID is more of a distant memory.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:43 pmSC is a possibility. Anything to do there ?Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 1:42 pm

I have been to Charleston loads of times... downtown is , tons of shopping/nightlife/"foodie" stuff. You can do horse drawn carriage history tours as well as some haunted building tours, the area is known for haunted stuff, lots of neat old buildings. The slavery museum downtown is very sad but worth visiting.
Folly Beach is near by and is a 5/7 chill surf community with awesome beach bars.
You also have Mount Pleasant/Shem Creek, fun place to go out, see live music, beach bars.
Take a walk over the Cooper River Bridge, take a sunset boat tour.
Other trips I really enjoy that may still be cool at this stage of COVID:
Vancouver, BC/surrounding areas
Sedona/Grand Canyon/Flagstaff, AZ
Santa Fe, NM
Ashville/Western NC
Moab, UT (and National Parks there)
New England is very pretty - could hit Providence, Boston, Catskills
Wisconsin (Madison, Milwaukee, Greenbay) is surprisingly nice in Spring
Let me know if you have questions on specific areas or are looking for shit to do.

I know mexico lets people in (hell desertbreh did too), yeah that might sound like Ted Cruz, but they make you fill out a form upon landing and the resorts too, no quarantine required and strict social distancing applied. I know a couple who went and they did not regret it. Cancun is 5/7, one resort I stayed in Westin (there are 2 of them) has rental car agencies right across the street (just avoid alamo cuz that fucker who worked there tried to rip me off) from the outlet looking area. You can drive to see Tulum (wide enough to do social distance) and stop by Playa del Carmen (obviously not to party, but still a nice place to stop by for an hour on the way back).
Also NYC is worse to drive than MX btw.

Not trying to “leave” the us (i know PR is technically the us)MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 2:16 pmI know mexico lets people in (hell desertbreh did too), yeah that might sound like Ted Cruz, but they make you fill out a form upon landing and the resorts too, no quarantine required and strict social distancing applied.
