I am now 4 weeks after surgery and 11 days since the cast came off and stitches out.
Had my second full OT/PT session today. Progress has been very slow. I have a very basic set of exercises I have to do 4-6 times a day to try and break up the stiffness and work on range of motion. In the last week I’ve had no appreciable increase in motion and am still limited to about a 20 degree sweep - 10 in either direction from a 90 degree bend. Strength has come back to my shoulder and I’m able to support the weight of my arm again on its own... until gravity kicks in with my forearm.
I’ve developed some swelling issues in my upper forearm by my elbow which leaves a layer that feels like memory foam on top of the muscle. Not unexpected (to them) due to the severity of the injury but something we need to keep an eye one. I can literally leave imprints in my arm that don’t go away for several minutes. We worked on breaking that up today, and adding a bunch of heat and massage to my routine over the next week.
The incision is healing well, but I’ve developed a few hotspots from the split so we adjusted that. The pain has been manageable after the exercises, but the biggest issue has been with nerve pain/tingling in my arm. Part of the surgery involved re-routing the ulnar nerve from the back of the arm to the inside of the elbow. Brushing/touching the inside of my arm feels weird and I can feel it twitch in my armpit and the back of my wrist. Nerves are weird things... this is just something I’ll eventually get used to. Apparently.
For those that didn’t see the scar, here it is:

Good luck man! Keep putting in the work and don’t get discouraged, it’ll be a marathon, not a sprint.

20 is enough for so I’d say the surgery was successful and anything else is just gravy.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 9:08 pm I am now 4 weeks after surgery and 11 days since the cast came off and stitches out.

Glad to hear you are progressing at a rate they think is ok. Keep it up and you’ll be back to normal in no time.

Tomorrow we’re taking our Boston to the vet for a checkup but then we’re going to spend a few days down on LBI I think. It’s convenient that the in-laws live at the beach.
Have fun on the upper peninsula!
