What bothers me about all this is that protesting is easy, but doesn't do anything.

People will go out there selfishly to make themselves feel better about who they are...take a bunch of selfies to prove on social media that they care and support injustice, and keep the phone camera rolling while they instigate law enforcement to catch the next viral clip.

But will they push for reform? Nah.
Vote for new people with better views? Nah, most won't even bother going to the polls.

I agree. I actually ride my bike in predominantly black neighborhoods here pretty regularly as they are lower trafficked and convenient. I'd be lying if I said there weren't times I've been uncomfortable, but absolutely zero issues ever have actually happened. I will continue to do so and hopefully overcome my discomforts with time. People are people and in most cases are just going to mind their own business if you're walking/riding through their neighborhood.

One thing that helped me a ton was traveling on the road for so long, I used to walk all over every city. Sometimes, you end up in a neighborhood that seems a bit rough around the edges, but overtime you learn that things end up being fine. I never ran into an issue. Granted, being a larger male certainly make this easier, I'd be more hesitant with some things as a woman, regardless of the race of the people around.
