OT 18: Anti-Social Distancing

I'm basically looking at entry level engineer jobs. And therefore competing with recent college grads that will happily take something for pennies. If I try to be at the top of that pay range, I get the "we are moving forward with other candidates that we believe are a better fit for our culture." One job said I was excluded because they'd have to relocate me. Like, bruh, we could have talked about this...

Sometimes things are worth just addressing head on in the interview. I interviewed a ton of people early this year and in the after discussions internally, a lot of times things like "well, person X is in Atlanta and didn't express interest in moving to Charlotte, are we willing to offer them relocation?" This certainly never ruled anyone out, but sometimes when there are multiple people who are good candidates, the easier path is taken. Never hurts to say "I'm open to moving to Atlanta or working remotely from my location in Philly". That way you haven't closed the door for getting relocation $$ but you have let them know you're open.

I wouldn't want to be job hunting in this climate, but I think preservance is the key. Johnny is a smart mofo, job is incoming without a doubt. The biggest challenge is the new baby/nesting process. I think he should find something locally at whatever compromise unless mama bear is good with a relocation too, which I'd be surprised about at this stage of incubation.

Lock shit down and you limit the virus spread and keep people alive.
But do that and your economy tanks and everyone loses their jobs.

The real problem in this country is people don't take the precautionary measures seriously. People aren't washing their hands, sanitizing, cleaning surfaces, etc. When I go to the store, I'd say a solid 50% of people are wearing their masks incorrectly or completely ignoring distance guidelines. Out walking around probably 30% of people aren't wearing their masks and just stuff them in their pocket to go in and out of stores.

I dunno. I guess I'm more sensitive to the subject since I've been talking to hospital staff for the last 8 months. And if I get the 'vid, even if I'm not showing symptoms, I cannot be in the room when my son is born. Which is not acceptable to me. So I wear a mask, and take the precautions, and distance myself from the 25 year olds crowding sidewalks at the local bar to drink their take out pineappletini slushies in groups of 20.

A lot has changed... early 20s versus early 30s is quite a different time in my life. I think many are in a similar age bracket here, I was 22 when I got my MK6.
