That's how my company is treating it too. They forced everyone to take a "returning to work" online training course, and the first wave is

1.) No less than 2 hours before work, you must take you temp and log it along with other answers to questions in an app
2.) When you get to work, the app is checked by a security official, and you're given a mask, gloves, AND safety glasses to wear...you cannot bring your own
3.) All of the above must be worn 100% of the time
4.) All meeting rooms and general congregation areas are closed and locked
5.) No in person meetings allowed, even if in the office, remote meetings are required
6.) Get work done and GTFO

The only reason I'd go back to the office is to attend in person meetings at the design area and engineering labs. Since all that's closed, it's going to be A WHILE until I go back.

Why even go in at all with those restrictions?

In our case, we've got engines and components to build. The go in, perform tasks, and leave people are doing things on systems that may not be accessible via remote desktop, and apparently some payrole and finance activities can't be completed unless in the office.

I think 100% WFH is highly unlikely for most these old companies. But I could see maybe 80% WFH permanent. I'd be super happy with that.

It was put in in 1953. The lady we bought the house from told us the story. She was pregnant that year and it was a HOT summer (confirmed by my mom who also remembers that summer being hot), so they put in the fan.

Yea I hate when I break those little access panels. They require some work to get them out but I found a small pry bar and a screw driver usually works with minimal damage.

Mine were CAKED with paint. I was replacing the original cords from 110 years ago, so it took a lot of persuasion to get the panels out. I actually ended up cutting the paint as much as I could, and whacking it with a hammer to loosen. The one I broke had no hope of being removed without damage.

In hindsight, I should have used the oscillating saw to cut new panels in the sash channels. Would have been faster and cleaner. That's what I'll do going forward, there's only a few more that need to be fixed.

We'd relocate in either case...but 100% would be awesome to go live anywhere. Just seems extremely unlikely.

It's pretty normal for shit like this outside of the best coast. Monday is supposed to be high 60 low 40. Usually with shitty wind and rain/snow during each transition. You get on the order of maybe 30 nice days a year? ~1% nice and 99% varying levels of shitty.

I’d be fine with a 3/2 day split of WFH/office or vice versa. I could push my commute out another half hour or so and still feel good about it.

It's Just drive 15 miles further, you'll find similar houses that costs no more than $500k. Also City of Falls Church is overpriced, because of the "best school system" and nothing else. Any other reason to live there is just silly.

Went to the dentist today since our state allowed the dentist offices to open last week. Not too much different than before, but there was a plastic partition at the receptionist desk, and she was in full PPE. Also, the dentist, who wore a face shield, did the cleaning and the exam, so as to minimize the number of people that have to be in my mouth. Oh, and I was given an antiseptic peroxide rinse before the cleaning. Otherwise, it was pretty normal.

We have two windows with full length screens. Weird.

It’s rather expensive to replace all of them, so I’ll continue to live the poor life with just the bottom of the window open.

im like 1 year over due

My 6mo overdue started right at the onset of this shit in Feb and I didnt really go anywhere. On top of this, my dentist Ive gone to for 15+ years with great results sold his practice to a new young guy. He fully retired in the midst of the virus instead of phasing out. So yeah, I havent missed this long of cleanings in a long while.

Wife went in and had the same experience you mention. The mouthwash sounds gross af.

My elbow started swelling up, I think I have tennis elbow or I pressed down on a recent injury that I didn't think was as serious as it is. Everything still moves ok but i started to get the chills last night when i came down for a drink of water. Paired the water with some antiinflamatory and two tylenol. Slept ok and the swelling is down a bit today.
