I'm just glad everyone is safe! I have no emotional connection to the stuff that's gone. The place could burn down for all I care. I'm being positive at home so that's flipped my wife into a good mood too. We are rebuilding our confidence and who knows they could be good luck later. Thanks bro, I appreciate it though.
Sucks that that happened, but I am confident you will handle it as best as you can. Kudos to helping keep the Mrs. on track and not focused on the negatives.

I'm having a real hard time looking at this positively and not as a stab in the back for expressing my concerns and unhappiness in my position.
I'm going from managing a group of 14, engineering manager title, to project engineer title managing nobody, 2 positions lower than I used to be. The guy I'm reporting to feels weird because I used to be a higher position than he was technically.
With these changes, I would have been managing a group of 26, 1 step higher on the reporting chain.
What matters more on a resume? That I directly managed 5 projects, or that I can manage a sizable multi-disciplinary department of 26? Oh you went from engineering manager to project engineer, who did you piss off?
So now if I want to see if my prior boss is good on his word, I wait. And who knows how long the waiting will be. Because he views these changes as "good" and "developmental" and I doubt getting me to a different position is high on his list of shit to do since he's taking over as VP of an entirely different department than where he currently is.
Alternatively, I leave, with a demotion showing up in my resume.

I did talk to him, he said it's still on the table to the extent he's able to facilitate it. The month off, IDK because he doesn't manage me anymore so he can't approve it. He will now lead a sizable chunk of the downtown office as a VP, so he'll theoretically be able to get me down there for a meet and greet a little easier. I just have no idea what that timeframe is, and I don't think it's a priority of his just yet since he will have plenty to learn about his new position.
Fuck all of this. I feel like I can't leave this goddamn place now because of the demotion shit.
I think with all of this shake up you're losing the forest for the trees.
One week ago you essentially said "take this job and shove it" and were fully prepared to be walked to the gate of the plant and unceremoniously tossed. That is the ultimate position of power.
Then, you got something you didn't expect. To quote Cal in Talladega Nights, "You were confused by their tactics."
You are STILL operating from the same position of power. I don't think this "demotion" becomes part of your resume unless you asked your boss what was up, he said "Fuck you JP, things have changed" AND you stayed anyway. Which would be insane.
TLDR: You're still in charge of your life.
Lots of catch up in here.
Life is always ups and downs. Got to stay mindful and chose whats best with the deck of cards you are delt.
I have a shit situation brewing. Hopefully it's over tomorrow. Compounded by nearly impossible work deliverable demands, it's really stressful. Might update the Haus bread or just nuke it.
Best thing i got going it my great and helpful wife and a supportive family. Along with my white privilege card.
So after all of the ups and downs I chose a little in and out. Catch you fools later.

Bingo.
Exactly how I'd look at it. Paid to hunt for jobs.
He’d get paid $550/wk to travel around out west on an epic bike trip with an occasional “interview” to satisfy the PA unemployment requirements for about 26 weeks.

I played until about 3 am and then crashed. Woke up at 7 about 45 minutes ago.
Came back to the room with just over $12K this morning so including the money I spent on food, knives and the bottles of whiskey I'm taking home I'm down about $4500 from what I had. I can live with it, but I'm in Nevada and Arizona until Sunday, so anything can happen.

Interview yesterday seemed to go well. They’ve interviewed five candidates and have two more this week, then next week they’ll narrow the selection to a few of us to come interview with the finance director and she’ll weigh in on the final decision.
Still waiting to hear back on the one I interviewed for last week.

Cereally, it seems that the market has just been no better than merely treading water for many months now.
