:triggered:

I did 8% down. Plus closing costs. I have no plans to go anywhere for a long while unless it's out of the state.

Taxes are $6k, it'll be interesting to see how things play out this year with the new standard deduction.
Spoiler alert: you will take the standard deduction.
:dat:

It'll actually be nice to not have to bother with itemizing. We'll have something like $3k less in liability which is about $700 in real dollars, plus simply not having to bother with any additional paperwork :bs: == :thankstrump:

I "saved" quite a bit in the past, especially when rates sucked.

I haven't bothered to look at the new "plan" since I get screwed over so many ways on taxes these days I just know to bring lube.
:bruh:

i bet its not as much as you think even at cali rape prices.

1. its a deduction not a credit. This is important.... on my first house i did the math. I was single and the number was 5500 back then i think.

I got to itemize and deduct like 8k instead of 5500. so i got 2500 extra off my taxable income. which 'saved' me like a grand total of... 200 dollars in taxes. NOT EVEN ONE MONTH of interest payment.

2. Lets not forget its real money that was pissed away to the banking industry.

/rant on "MAH INTEREST PAYMENTS DEDUCTION!
I wish I only paid $8k in interest before. One year I claimed 30k in interest alone on this house. When I had the house in Arizona at the same time it was crazy.

Today, we're still paying around $18k in interest with better rates. And, since until this year I did my own taxes I ran them with and without the interest deduction and other deductions to see if they mattered. After a certain income level some of them don't seem to apply anymore, like DMV license fees, etc.

I would rather pay a bank than the .gov at this point in time.

Damn, I just did the :math: and we'll actually pay about $2500 less in federal tax for 2018 vs 2017 with the same income (dat no raises lyfe). :thankstrump: indeed.

one can make generalizations based on age.

We upgraded house but kept note close to the same. Many people upgrade house and keep putting 5% down buying as much house as they can like idiots and their note increases forever. I'm also building equity faster by putting 20% down so I'll be on the downswing of those 30yr interest payments sooner rather than later.
I can't imagine not putting 20% down. If you can't do that, you can't afford it IMO.
#Flooddebt.

I would be able to do so, at this point, if it wasn't for that.
I put a lot towards principal on my house doe, so that helps.

Speaking of :scrooge: , in Cozumel last week we took a taxi to a local Walmart-type of store called Mega - they sell everything from groceries to clothes to booze to motorcycles, lol. We bought 5 bottles of booze and a case of beer and spent about $72. :scrooge: :drunk:

I was pretty surprised to see that we actually got a significant cut, usually we are middle class enough to never really see a direct effect from policy changes. Not having kids or owning a business either = it's rare that changes matter to us.

Weren't the :thankstrump: individual tax cuts temporary and set to expire in a couple years, while the corporate cuts are permanent?
