I was a little worried about Rashford coming on so late and being so young if it went to penalties but he was cool AF and put it away like a veteranfledonfoot wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 7:46 pm Ok, I think I just started breathing again.
When I saw there was 5 minutes of injury time I knew we were doomed. I had the match playing on my computer at work and slammed my desk in anger. Eyebrows were raised and I had to explain myself.
Then the goal went in. I stood up and flipped my chair over, and had to storm out into the shop to unleash a barrage of cursing.
My English coworker came up to watch extra time and eventually the penalties. We had a small crowd of people watching us watch the match... it was intense. Going from being down in the shootout to winning it... what a strange feeling.
As an Englishman, I’ve never seen us win something as simple as a penalty shootout. We always cock it up. Typical England being typical England.
I can not explain how it feels. I’m happy for Southgate, redemption for his penalty miss. I’m happy that this team pulled through to make it. They are gaining so much experience and the future is bright regardless of the result against Sweden.
But yeah, going down after Hendersons miss and then winning...pretty intense.

I was trying to explain it to people at work. Being an England supporter (and a Newcastle United fan, too) is like combining the Flyers and the pre-Superbowl Eagles, with most of the Phillies' 10,000 losses thrown in for good measure.Calvinball wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 8:58 pmYou sound like a Philly sports fan.fledonfoot wrote:Ok, I think I just started breathing again.

Especially the flyers, who for decades now have always done just enough to be slightly better than average and no better.
Eagles and Phils have actually won things in the past decade, bucking Philly sports tradition.

Prediction. England will make a nice run. Not sure about Spain with all the recent termoil. Belgium and France winning it wouldn't surprise me. I don't see Germany repeating. Brazil will flame out.
Going out on a limb and saying Belgium will win
That's all

So what I would love to see is Belgium meet England in the final, so we get to see both first elevens play against each other to make up for the borefest that was the third group match.
Realistically my inner self is doing the typical English thing right now.
We're going to win the World Cup. We should, seeing as all the big teams are choking.
Which means we probably will tomorrow.
