Had this discussion with the wife recently. I was because her position was that drivers aren't athletes because "it's the cars and pit crews, not the drivers that win races", and there's nothing particularly athletic about driving.
Ask her to think about a time that she took a turn faster than she should have, and the stress on her system that caused. Then tell her to imagine driving at that limit for hours, with a helmet and fire suit on. Then remind her of the toll hours in the car takes on our bodies when we are just cruising down the highway and able to take a break whenever we want.

Yea she'd just be like
Totally agree with you, of course.

Tell her to drive the whole way on a multi-hour road trip without swapping out. Then, tell her to imagine doing that but at the highest limits of the car, while trying to pass other people and win.
She loves to drive long distances so that would not convince her of anything. She's driven from Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago alone and from Chicago to New Haven, CT in 1 shot. But doing it at the limits of the car is a good point that she will not acknowledge.

I couldn’t imagine trying to lap the 919 EVO at the car’s limits. I’d probably be

Only a true athlete could be that fat and still be elite
Just like nfl linemen. They definitely don’t fit the visual definition of “fit,” but what they can do physically is insane. Sumo comes to kind as well.

Or a pitcher like David Wells or bartolo colon. Those guys are super strong but super specialized
Soccer, basketball, tennis..etc. those guys/gals are finely tunned athletes.
To shit on my own point that soccer players aren't "fancy", here is a picture of the fanciest player going currently. I didn't even know some of those muscles existed

I think they have played like one of the best teams this year. They are playing well together and with Kane up front they can finish.
I believe.
Against inferior opposition. We had the easiest group (aside from the Belgium match that meant nothing) to get out of.
This is a new and improved England, where we are finally picking players to a system vs building a system around the players, with good morale and positivity.

I thought it was over after Henderson missed.
Columbia were smashing those penalties
That last one wasn't a great shot either
Was a nailbter for sure. Doesn’t need to be a great shot. Just needs to go into the net.

When I saw there was 5 minutes of injury time I knew we were doomed. I had the match playing on my computer at work and slammed my desk in anger. Eyebrows were raised and I had to explain myself.
Then the goal went in. I stood up and flipped my chair over, and had to storm out into the shop to unleash a barrage of cursing.
My English coworker came up to watch extra time and eventually the penalties. We had a small crowd of people watching us watch the match... it was intense. Going from being down in the shootout to winning it... what a strange feeling.
As an Englishman, I’ve never seen us win something as simple as a penalty shootout. We always cock it up. Typical England being typical England.
I can not explain how it feels. I’m happy for Southgate, redemption for his penalty miss at Euro 96. I’m happy that this team pulled through to make it. They are gaining so much experience and the future is bright regardless of the result against Sweden.
