The behavior of people swarming to an inheritance must be one of the most depressing things in human existence. Goddam man, go make your own fucking money.
And that's why I have no problem with a healthy inheritance tax. You didn't earn that shit. Throw some toward the common good.

I'm grateful for what I got, but I always encouraged my mother to spend on herself, unfortunately she just was a by heart.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:00 pm The behavior of people swarming to an inheritance must be one of the most depressing things in human existence. I'm not getting much from my grandparent's estate, which is great. They grew up in the depression and are truly "self-made" Americans.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 11:06 am I'll get something from my grandmother's estate. Could be substantial, might not be. I hope she used it on herself.
They traveled and lived very comfortably.
Nothing with taking it, just to see those who expect it or olds busting their asses just to give it all away.Melon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 10:12 amI'm grateful for what I got, but I always encouraged my mother to spend on herself, unfortunately she just was a by heart.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 1:00 pm The behavior of people swarming to an inheritance must be one of the most depressing things in human existence. As you said yourself, the beneficiaries should earn their own $. As most inheritance tax proposals are written, they still will get their unearned inheritance, they'll just pay a tax on it for amounts over a fairly large amount, thereby excluding most estates from the tax anyway.

I don't think taxes are too high for upper tiered earners, and certainly not for capital gainz. That shit should be taxed like regular income.

Right. Just saying I'm a fan. It gets fought against every time proposed changes to the tax codes get brought up.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:33 pmThat's what happens right now?wap wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 3:28 pm

I don't have a lot of sympathy for inheritance getters so I'm not worried about it, but in general the double dip feels kinda to me.

Protip. The only people getting double dipped are people with a net worth of 11M or higher. But they are not getting double dipped either because people who have 11M have lawyers who know how to do the end around on most of this shit. If you don't think double dipping is fair, I ASSURE you that really rich people take an even harder line and they will avoid that result at maximum

Yes we pay 13% on all goods and services in Ontario. Other provinces have a variance to the 5% piece that they keep.
We don't pay taxes on already taxed inheritances or capital gains on property IF it is being used as a primary residence.
