Yeah, I mean I could make a planet fitness work for my needs in the short term as long as they don’t kick me out for being a “lunk” or whatever they call meatheads thereDetroit wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:58 pmYea, so you'd be screwed in the short run...but maybe you could still go to a healtclub type thing in the interim? Obviously not the same and will require some compromises, but could be a solution until you figure out if there's a market.SAWCE wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:41 pm
A brief search didn’t turn up any real bodybuilding gyms. Mostly health clubs some Planet Fitness type stuff, and a lot of CrossFit gyms.
Opening my own would definitely be cool, but if have to be out there a while and gauge interest in a true bb style gym to see if it’d be profitable.

Haha I still kick the idea of switching to powerlifting around, but not yet. That’ll be when I have kids and only have time to train a few days/hours every week.Apex wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 4:00 pmA squat rack, bench, barbell, and some plates is so much cheaper.SAWCE wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:45 pm
Something I’d love to do one day, but to be able to hit everything I need it’d cost a lot of money and I’d have to have a hyuge basement or garage to build it out in. Yesterday for example training legs, I used 5 different pieces of equipment. 4-5 different machines for each muscle group is pretty common for the way that I have to train. Some of those would cross over different muscle groups, but I’d say to have a home gym I could completely train in the way I need to I’d be looking at at least 20 machines/racks, plus all the weights.
Some day doe..

Just made up and ordered some personal business cards.
Weaseled my way into a construction consortium for a major upgrade to a local university.
Plan to use it as a networking platform.

Talked to my buddy about the Florida job today since the req finally opened. If I apply it’s mine. He’s been given the okay to hire me no questions asked, no interview, nothing. Level 4 project manager. Doesn’t pay as high as it would out here due to location, but I’d still jump up into the 6fig mark with it, which combined with Melbourne’s cheap cost of living would make it seem like an even bigger raise.
The one thing holding me back right now is mom. She’s scheduled for some more tests this week and then we’ll hopefully know what’s up. If things are bad, I’ll stay out here. If she gets a good prognosis and they think they can wipe this cancer out quickly and somewhat painlessly I’ll likely take the job.

year end review coming up for our department. Hopefully I did well. Going to see if I can take on regional security stuff since everyone else in my position does.

That’s sort of what happened to me with this move to Tejas. It sort of was a right place right time move. Many in my role would need 5-10 years but our new site needed someone and that someone was going to be a Senior regardless of whether it was a promotion for non-seniors or a lateral for current seniors (which made it less of an incentive for them since they didn’t want to move for a lateral “jump”). They made it internal only because we were doing a “site takeover” and they needed someone who is already familiar with our P&P’s and SOP’s and culture. Myself and another specialist applied, I got it and the other specialist left to another company right after. That being said, now that the site is up and running with enterprise security, is like to see if I can handle all projects/security for the state of Texas (which is big enough to be its own region in terms of our footprint of locations).
That’s what I’m gunning for the moment they say we hire a specialist to run the current site I’m based out of.

Hope everything works out with momma sawce so you can try grabbing that job. Making 6 figures in Melbourne you'll live pretty damn well. You'll have some extra spending money to jaunt down to Miami or over to the Gulf of weekends.
I switched from PF to the YMCA while on the road and the YMCA in most places is really nice and has a ton of equipment for power lifting or body building. It's kind of expensive but pretty
Hope everything goes well with your mom dude! Sounds like a good career opp since you're looking to move out of CA at some point.

So this is strange.
Got a LinkedIn message from a recruiter about an industrial construction job in the Philly region. Building a port. Figured what the hell, so I responded and sent my resume over. Pro tip, always respond to the person's direct email not through linkedin, so you can attach a resume. Anyways. Got a call from the recruiting company, they sent my resume to the hiring manager and he liked it.
Just got off the phone with their VP of engineering. Made me a verbal offer. Merry Christmas. Now I gotta decide what to do.
Stay at current job and do nothing for a while, then insanity to build this project, then either run the place (blech), or look for something else.
OR
Take new job. Build a new port facility in south Jersey that is multi-modal including rail, ship, oil/gas, container, roll-on/roll-off (think cars), warehousing, and should theoretically employ me for years. They have a budget of $1BN. 1 dock constructed. 1 more dock being permitted. Rail terminal under construction now. 150 workers on site. Ships start in April.
Another small investment capital backed company though. And pay would go down $5-10k.

This gig would be build an entire port facility. Then run/maintain/expand.
I started looking again because my company's TX facility is going on 2 years of not running correctly. And our current project is 1 year late, continuing to get pushed back. Plus I don't think there's much of a future for me at this company.

it also sounds like that future is in Texas.... which can be good or bad depend on your perspectiveJohnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2019 10:06 amCurrent gig is build a (tiny) vacuum distillation unit and then run/maintain.

This is a tough call. I agree with Brad in that I think the future is definitely in Texas just because space and industry is there but i also think that current job versus specific offer on the table, port one sounds more involving and fulfilling.
But also think about the munchkin on the way? You will probably want a more laid back gig where you can still participate but mostly manage people so you can get home to family.
