Not taking money that is owed to you shouldn't be a badge of honor.

No shit. I've paid into unemployment my whole life. If I'm entitled to something, I'll take it.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:46 pm Not taking money that is owed to you shouldn't be a badge of honor.
I was completely willing to work the next few weeks and was walked out instead. If that entitles me to something, I'll do it.

When I quit, I told my boss I'd be happy to work through the end of the month and he said "that's not an option here" and walked me out instead.KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:20 pmI'm assuming you gave a future date for your last day. That's when the quit is effective.
Between Monday, when they escorted you out, and the day your quit would have becone effective, you are entitled to benefits on the separation.
There are other requirements, the biggest being physically going to a "Michigan Works" office and registering for "work".
Happy to walk you through it if you want to file.
There's a Michigan works office 5 minutes from me. I already have a job with a set start date (April 1st), but if I can get some benefits in the interim, I'm all ears. I'll go to the office and "look for work" since I don't really have anything else to do ATM.

Sick time payouts, Vaca payouts, etc can effect you payment. You'll have report your earnings for Monday as well.Detroit wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:52 pmNo shit. I'd file no later than Saturday to avoid complications. These scenarios aren't seen a lot and you going to get delayed a bit because of that unless you get lucky and someone who knows what they are doing gets the case.
I don't work over there anymore but again, I'm more than happy to help you in any way I can.
Technically it's just a one time thing to go there to "register" so that will be easy. In short, it's putting your resume into their system for job referrals.Detroit wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:56 pmWhen I quit, I told my boss I'd be happy to work through the end of the month and he said "that's not an option here" and walked me out instead.KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:20 pm

You'll be required to "search for work". 2 contacts per week. Even with the new job lined up. Just put in 2 applications anywhere and you'll be fine. Only 10 cases per week get audited in the entire state.
FYI, employees in the state of Michigan don't pay into unemployment insurance tax directly. Employers pay a percentage in tax on the first 9000 in wages per year to employees.
So if that plays into your decision....
Wether or not that's built into your pay is another story. Some states you do pay into it directly. PA is one or at least it was the last time I was there.

Technically, it makes sense. The situation changes from a voluntary separation to an involuntary. I didn't go in and quit immediately, that was their choice.[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 8:15 am Wow, I had no idea that if you offered a resignation period and they walked you out that you could still get unemployment. Neat!

Yeah, I withdraw my earlier comment as I forgot you offered them two weeks and they told you to pound sand. I would open a line of credit at Tony's with my government check.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 10:02 amTechnically, it makes sense. Being under paid and aware of it is a kick in the balls. Ask for more money, if you're meeting or exceeding all your performance metrics.
I'm 4 years without a meaningful raise outside COL adjustments.

The biggest thing I need to figure out is if it's worth my time. I'm way beyond max benefit, and I'm looking at 2-3 weeks so what's that...$500 maybe? With applying online and going down to the works office (who knows how much time you have to wait for stuff there, I spent hours just getting my damned trailer registered at the DMV) and applying for jerbs and whatnot...I don't know if it's really worth the effort. I'm really enjoying my mini retirement right now.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 1:09 pmYeah, I withdraw my earlier comment as I forgot you offered them two weeks and they told you to pound sand. It's probably not. You would have to be doing it for the LOLZDetroit wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 2:07 pmThe biggest thing I need to figure out is if it's worth my time. It's way easier applying in Cali. You submit for it online, then they approve or deny you, then you have to do 5 applications a week or something. Don't have to go anywhere in person for it.
That could be the only time consuming part for you, Chris. The applications are as easy as opening indeed and finding something with their quick apply link and shoot on an application in 5 seconds. Spend an hour or two at the office and 5 minutes each week applying for jobs for $500.. Is your time worth more than $200/hr?

Probably $930(that's 3 weeks. It's bout 310 after taxes per week) without accounting for any earnings deductions the first week or any Vaca payouts.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 2:07 pmThe biggest thing I need to figure out is if it's worth my time. Probably won't take more than an hour to get registered. It's not busy this time of year.
But it will literally be a month or more before you see the payment. GM will get a letter saying you've filed and asking them for details about the separation.
