They're going to do a skin biopsy tomorrow (first available appointment for the lab they work with), and are giving her pain medications for today. They don't want to give antibiotics because they don't know what it is. But she'll be with them all day tomorrow for this.

Also going to take some blood samples and review those, and check for mites which is unlikely.

Poor pup.
Did they give you an estimate?

I've spent too much on her over the last 1.5 years to give up at $800. $8k? We've got a problem.

You'll have to go for burgers instead of steak for a few meals to cover the cost.

2 year old dog needs $800 of exams, blood work, and pain meds. Better put her down, it's for the best.

:wtf:

Meanwhile I spent nearly double that on a 3rd random bicycle earlier this year.

:fax: what's your hard upper limit on the kid? $1500?

Yeah but it was never too high. We have 3 dogs so it's basically 2k at this point for each individual dog.

I didn't say that, it just seems high as fuck. even with east coast tax. My dog has had a few minor surgeries over her life, most with overnight stays, and none have ever been more than 500 bucks.

Insurance says the kids upper limit is 1 million lifetime, he is safe if he stays under that while he is under 18.

I'd probably cap my dog at $1500 for a single visit.

that was my number if they had a good chance of a good outcome.

Now that they are much older and my dog is officailly borrowing time...its lower. Much lower.

Yeah that makes sense. She's not even 3 left, so as long as she'd have a good quality of life after surgery, I'd do it since she could potentially be around another 10-12 years. If she was already 9 or 10, that number would probably be $500

That's not how it works IRL. You go into the vet to look at the big lump that's been growing on your dog's leg....Dog is 10 yoa. They do cytology on the lump, out for results. $400. Phone call to Brandon "Lump is malignant, but the good news is that is hasn't traveled to the lymph nodes, I feel like we have a good chance of cutting it out with good margins." How much to cut it out?" "$1800."

So are you going to put the dog down right there or just take it home and put some .45 ACP into its cranium out in a field?

My guess is neither.
