Seems a pomade might be what I need. I had one before that I didn't really like though, it made my hair very flat. I just want it short on the sides and brushed over the top with some hold and volume.

So umm, this is ... but anyone use products? I use Rogaine foam, which mostly holds things in place, but would like to add a bit of volume on top without having my hair look gelled/wet or have brush lines.

But since you asked I use American Crew hair products. Fiber or pomade depending. It goes on dry and fills out my hair a bit. The fiber is a really strong hold and the pomade smells great and gives volume and hold with a natural pliability.
