I suppose. I am viewing it more from the perspective of a student getting a letter of rec from a professor. Different dynamics.[user not found] wrote:A good boss will ensure his employees know EXACTLY what he thinks at all times.razr390 wrote: It has its pros and cons. In most organizations the employees write their own reviews first, then the boss writes theirs. Mine and my guys are very similar because we give each other constant feedback, both directions.

Yup. I think I would rather and find someone else to give me a letter if a professor or likewise told me "just write it yourself and I'll sign it"..[user not found] wrote:Totally differentrazr390 wrote: I suppose. Yes it is.razr390 wrote:Is the letter for you?Barnes93cb wrote:I have to write a letter of recommendation on the behalf of my boss. That will then be sent up the chain of command for corrections until it ultimately lands on his desk to sign or tell me to go fuck myself.
This thing is a pain in the ass to write.
Writing the letter of recommendation for myself on my commanders behalf. Its odd. But how the military works.
When you want their signature you do all the work for them.

Fully agree. However it is exceptionally difficult for someone without strong writing skills. And a first time.[user not found] wrote:I've had to do this before and had people that work for me do it.D Griff wrote: What the shit?
Write your own recommendation, boss modifies and sends it along. Good exercise to learn how to effectively tout your skills and accomplishments.

Thats kinda where I am with it. But I need to do it.[user not found] wrote:Writing my own recommendation just makes me feel slimy.
I'm pretty humble, I don't like to toot my own horn and even feel weird when people compliment me on things.
The my leadership all the way to the boss will make changes and it will only look like 25% of what I had originally written. So it somehow seems better to me.

This! We are pretty good about getting feedback from our leadership. Otherwise you will never know what is expected of you and how to make corrections to your work.[user not found] wrote:A good boss will ensure his employees know EXACTLY what he thinks at all times.razr390 wrote: It has its pros and cons. It is very likely that when the letter lands on my commanders desk I will be called into his office for a review and to talk about what my overall intentions are with the letter. He already knows that its being drafted and what the program is. Now its just to see me face to face and talk it all over one final time.
