I guess I'm not dedicated enough to any hobby.

As a skier, I get it.. nothing compares in the world to it.
I can understand the mindset, but at the same time:

You can ski every year of your life. You only get to go to Australia (and New Zealand...did I mention New Zealand??) 1 to 0 times in your life.

I mean that's my thinking too but I do understand the whole work to live mental conflict going on here.

You will regret not going more than you will regret losing *only* 8 weeks of skiing. I went to China despite missing out on a lot of family things and my own kids.... and I do not regret it at all. Once in a lifetime opportunities are exactly that.
