I feel the same. One thing that drew me to our house was that the woodwork was not painted downstairs. It was painted upstairs, but I enough to not bother stripping it since no one goes up there besides us.
Same here.
It's all un-painted american chestnut. Not very common.
Our house is all oak. Very pretty, but was all painted at some point. PO stripped a lot, I'm going to pick up where he left off.

My guess would be that Chris took some time off because he has read the dialogue on this page 1,345 times and decided to spend some of his free time doing something besides beating a horse to death.

I don't understand anything anymore.
We looked at a house and all the doors, window trim, crown, everything was quarter sawn. It was amazing. It was a cheap house in a bad neighborhood and went way above asking. It was a gem

Oh wow, thanks for posting this! I had no idea.
A lot appears to be quarter sawn according to this.

Quarter sewn is the most stable against moving with temperature/humidity changes. That's how better guitar necks are cut, it makes sense for stuff to be the same.

On our first floor, our hardwood floors are alternating strips of quarter sawn oak and maple. It's 5/7.

You guys are going to be hanging out at your local saw mill, drooling over wood.... Driving by Woodcraft stores not on the way home.... Waxing on some Festool joiners
Soooo been looking closer at the wood in the house. Actually not much quarter sawn, but appears to be a lot of rift sawn and live sawn. According to the Google, rift sawn is the hardest to mill? It's all over the house, and when combined with the live sawn results in some pretty epic wood grain patterns.

BTW, wife thinks I've lost it. I was explaining to her the difference in the wood and what our house has and she's
