And the big thing that makes most digital pictures frames shitty...cords. But i used my secret powers to cut in a new outlet!!!
I hooked it up to a smart switch too so it can be turned off to reduce ambient light if needed. But the thing will usel like 6 bucks of power a year so :aintcare: about the electricity cost.
Image

Side view. I could have made it a little thinner, but not much. decided to just leave it be casue a half inch or so on three and a half is NBD
Image

Finished state. Looks the bizness IMHO.

I budgeted about 300 for this project and came in under. Oh and the monitor has speakers so in a pinch it can also be a TV

About 200 for the amazon stuff. Monitor, smart switch, roku express, various cabling.
44 at hobby lobby for the matting and glass
35 at home depot for the electrical stuff and the wood oak frame. Could have save 20 bucks here by going with pine.
So about 280. Time wise I probably have 8-10 hours in the project. I think it came out five outta fucking seven.

Possible dumb question - I saw you said you have a Roku hooked up to this, so multipurpose intents here? Digital photo frame? Baby monitor display? Another media screen? All of the above?

Regardless, it looks dope, esp with that secret outlet cut in so no visible cables. 5/7 would :fax: again.

Not dumb at all, and thanks for praise.

So yes, the 100% primary purpose of this is a Digital picture frame. I did get a monitor with speakers so in a pinch it can be a HDTV.
Using a roku and the google photo view channel that pulls from the web. so that's what playing all the time. But I can stream anything to it a roku could play. (https://channelstore.roku.com/details/1 ... gle-photos)
I went with a roku for a few reasons. I have 2 already so i could test this on our tv extensively before going forward. I got to stay with one infrastructure for streaming boxes.

Any backup plan for loosing support with google photos and the roku involves a raspberry pi, but this was by far hitting the easy button.

Did you start with something more coarse and finish with 600 or just use 600 by itself?

I need to start a new project but don't know what

Just the 600. The wood itself had a good finish on it to begin with though.

so, we are doing a home gym in the third bedroom.

I'll add some details later, but its 50 a month for my YMCA membershit, if I add back in the wife its nearly 80, so a 1k budget for just myself is a 20 month payback. Also my work will refund 50% of equipment up too 250 bucks.

I've been going to gym consistently for almost 5 years at this point so I think I am far over the 'well i pay for it need to use it' justification and way into the 'I need to do this everyday (I schedule) so I feel awesome the rest of the time.'

So let this games begin. Im sure the larger part of DFD outside the meatheads think I'm :wrong:

Well, you always think we're :wrong: about everything, so it's a correct assumption.

This is going to be a biggish project. I have to sell the buffet and get a new tv as well as a wall mount. Will need entertainment center like thing for all the electronics.
