How often do you clean (or have cleaned) your dryer vent?

I've never fully cleaned out mine. I clean the lint screen after every load and I periodically check the vent from the outside and it's still clean. I also changed the duct a few years ago and it was clean inside so

is probably true. Mine comes out the back, goes straight up about 6', then makes 1 90* turn to exit out the house, so pretty direct.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2017 11:33 pm I think it all comes down to how long your dryer vent tube is and how many turns there are.
The more complex the route, the more lint gets trapped.

new house is a very short run straight through the wall.
old house had fuckery. Had to have a pro come do it. Only swallowed that pill once, was starting to have trouble drying clothes when we left. now, new owners problem.

suggested I get a dryer vent "booster". Basically an in line fan that helps push/pull air out. I need to get my dryer vent out of my garage. I think I posted it here with my dilemma. Asked the internet and found code length limit is like, 25feet. Every 90° bend you add you have to subtract 5' from your 25' total. I need to research this booster fan

Previous owner was probably not cleaning the lint screen often enough.Calvinball wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 8:05 amMine is like this too, but when I took a look at it becausenewhouse it was pretty full of crap. So I will be keeping an eye on it.

I was wondering what you did with that!Acid666 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 9:37 am suggested I get a dryer vent "booster". Basically an in line fan that helps push/pull air out. Yeah who knows. It's pretty cleared out now so I'll be checking it down the line a bit to see if it's building up again.wap wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:14 pmPrevious owner was probably not cleaning the lint screen often enough.Calvinball wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 8:05 am

that. mine is sort and blows direct to outside a flap. I see specs of lint on the concrete outside. It has good flow. zero concern about build up.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2017 11:33 pm I think it all comes down to how long your dryer vent tube is and how many turns there are.

now. some town homes and condos? FUCK THAT. they vent so terribly... thats a fire hazard. My grandmas newly constructed duplex vented into the attic... it was the worst mess id seen after 5 years of use.

Nobody can suggest that DFD doesn't confront the most compelling issues of our time.
Our dryer started taking longer to dry clothes....the tube was completely plugged, total fire hazard.

I just rebuilt my dryer vent with the intention of it being easy to clean.
I'm going to check it periodically.
How often you need to clean it depends on your line length, how many bends it has, etc.
Good rule of thumb is to clean it whenever you notice your dry cycles taking longer than they did.

I wonder how many fires start this way these days. Modern dryers have thermostats that blow if it gets too hot.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:47 pm Nobody can suggest that DFD doesn't confront the most compelling issues of our time.

This is good. $122 isn't horrible. If I could route it to the dryer's power and not have to think about it that would be awesome.
I'll dig more into this later. Appreciate the links

Haven't done anything with it yet. Been working on other things. I might look in my attic this weekend to see where I could run the ducting to the back of my house. I've got room to play, just gotta find a shorter route.wap wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:14 pmI was wondering what you did with that!Acid666 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2017 9:37 am suggested I get a dryer vent "booster".
