these new fobs EAT batteries man. Easy fix but the wireless fob is ALWAYS on. Apparently 1 year of use is "good" life.wap wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 8:31 amYea, it's easy to swap in a new battery, but the thought that they gave me a brand new key with an almost dead battery is a bit , but NBD, as you say.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 8:23 am
Easy enough fix. Battery is a few bucks I think and you can change it yourself. The charged me something ridiculous when I traded in my Mk7. The other key was apparently dead and they didn't tell me until after.
Also, do you store your keys close to the car? It could be battery drain from the proximity key.

I keep my keys in the kitchen off the garage. I would guess it's something over 20 ft away from the car. The wife's H proximity key is stored the same distance away and her battery is fine, fwiw.
:wtf: WAP made a car thread? AKA the most boring car thread ever

Womans 2010 tsx remote battery is at least 8 years old
But my ex's MBC300 would eat it every year. I think it depends on the car and model.

My Mk6 fob was still on its original battery after almost 10 years.

Gberg mentioned above that if the fob is stored too close to the car it could drain the battery because they'd be constantly communicating. My assperiment proved they are not in constant contact.

The new key I got for the MBZ is AF compared to the old one. Chrome bits, fancy buttons. I just put it in the drawer and use the old one.

I pretty much I'll blow the original key out with a can of air and start using that one daily, especially since its battery seems to be fine. I'll also probably pick up a 2025 for the new key just to keep it in working condition.
