Do you really want to drive around without an airbag when your last car was Totalled by someone named Stewart ?wap wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 4:00 pm So, crickets from my SA yesterday. Found out he was off. Just got a text from him:
Good afternoon WAP. My parts manager has been back and forth with Volkswagen today. We had no luck on the dealer search. Right now Volkswagen is telling us there is no eta. They will be getting back to us by Friday with an eta.
I asked if I should just pick up my car and he can call me when the harness comes in.
:wtf: WAP made a car thread? AKA the most boring car thread ever

But you also haven’t met Stuart’s wife, texting Karen.
I think driving the jederp is the only reasonable outcome. As as it seems

Guess you guys are right. Just got a reply:
Hopefully the door harness won't be on backorder too much longer.
Guess I'm stuck with the Jederp for another week or more.Due to the airbag light being on, it technically is a safety concern. The only way we could do that would be to have you sign a waiver stating you are taking it being aware that the airbag light is on and a safety concern.
Hopefully the door harness won't be on backorder too much longer.

Texted my SA late Friday afternoon. Heard back this morning. He said that VW is saying Wednesday for my door harness to come in. So I've got the Jederp for a couple more days at least. Had it since 3/12.
Speaking of which, a couple more random observations about it.
It doesn't have thumb wheels to close off individual dash vents.
It has LED headlights, but oddly poverty. No bending in turns, not even projector lenses, just reflectors, so they're somewhat better than the halogens in my Mk6, but nowhere near as good as the LP on the Blue Meanie.
No grocery bag hangers in the trunk. My shit is always scattered about the trunk when I come home from grocery shopping.
In ECO mode it starts in 2nd gear. I think it's the slowest acceleration I can remember experiencing.
Acceleration is adequate I guess in regular mode. I imagine the 8 gears help a bit.
In regular, non-eco mode this thing easily gets an indicated 40+ mpg. After my 15 minute ride to work this morning it showed 43.4. Diesel numbers.
Haven't had it on the highway,
The seats are extraordinarily ordinary, without any adjustable lumbar support, but the bottoms are pretty long, so DFD'ers probably wouldn't complain about lack of thigh support at least.
Jeez, I've had this car too long.

I had a Nissan Rogue sport for rental for a couple of weeks, as much as I despise this CVT pile Okinowa trailer trash (hell I much rather take the jetta over it) I enjoy driving it through potholes on purpose, curb hop in tight shopping centers etc. total mobile. Redlining that CVT is and just gorges gas by doing thatDesertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 5:12 pmIf you keep someone's rental car as a hostage things get done faster.

I remember when I bought my mk7 (when they were new), the base bare bones GTI began $25k, 2 door :manual: S. Now the cheapest is $28k. If you think that's bad, check rav4 pricing, especially that $50k hybrid.

Got a text from my SA late this morning. The harness showed up and the car will be ready to pick up after work.
12 days with the Jederp.
Speaking of which, I just noticed this morning that the thing doesn't even have a fold down rear center arm rest, and no rear seat vents at the back of the center console. At $21k sticker, It's the epidemy of poverty, only good, IMO, as a first car for a college kid or a poor family. Which, I guess it's good that cars like that are still being made. It's got back seat and trunk space, and it also gets pretty epic EMMPEEGEES.
