Unless you had a 1200 baud modem that thought that was "super fast", you're too young to talk about the old days of computer telecommunications. I started out on an acoustic coupler modem.

I remember 14.4 modems. 56k was so fast. Then I convinced my parents we needed high speed cable internet and that was the fuckin BOMB. I could finally play counter strike at reasonable frame rates.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 3:53 pmslightly younger. we had 2nd dedicated phone like for our 14.4 modem...that thanks to ma bell might have connected at 7200 if we were having a good dayCorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 3:50 pm

My first "high speed" internet at home that wasn't a shell account was via an ISDN line that cost me over $100/month for a single channel (64KBPS). I owned everyone on Doom 2 tho with my super low pings! People would see me join, then just quit.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 3:54 pmI remember 14.4 modems. 56k was so fast. First modem:
Note: I hear these are still in demand and used frequently in Russia. They are just the right tech to hack the US security systems we have in place today.
