As you can tell by now I am not here to front and discuss my flaws openly. The cross tranny is just a stop gap that checks every box and is cheap to operate. It costs the same new as a FJ used and it'll get me to almost everywhere I want to go.

Any other ideas on a ruggedy off road vehicle.
Preference:
1. Simple
2. under 20k
3. under 15 years old, preferably 10
4. under 130k miles
5. 4x4
6. preferably "unique"

I caught myself thinking about a stripped out Cross Tranny with a steek again. But that seems very boring for now.
You think the first gen Lexus GX470 is a mom mobile IIRC, but if you're back at looking at Cross Tranny's stop right there, get a rig with a V8, luxo amenities, REAL 4wd with a 4 Low transfer case, drives nice on the highway.
Here are my issues with the GX.
V8 + at Most 12/13 mpg while it seems close to the 16/7 the v6 vehicles get it really isn’t. And I have 0 use for a 3rd row and all that immense size.

The leather on these cracks in 5/7 of them, and you have to sit on chewed up disgusting seats in my price range.

So overall it’s just even less useful for my needs than the other vehicles which are already pretty useless on the regular. And as you mentioned the styling

They are bout same price as a FJ but see above about the GX, and LX is even BIGGER and thirstier. I don't have the use for that.

I wonder if a jeep lease makes sense in my case. Somehow a 2 door lease for 48 months is $50 more per month than a 4 door for 36.

4 door residual is way higher.

So it seems... it's pretty interesting considering it is also about 10% more expensive.

Xterra could be worth checking out, especially in BroForks trim. :manuel: is available but on the rarer side.

I suppose I should add that I'd actually need to spend hours in this vehicle at a time without feeling the urge to kill myself.

I just can't look at it without throwing up a little. I would literally rather buy two Cross trannys than 1 GX for 19k

I don't understand, it's just a loaded 4 Runner. But you allow me my Cross-Tranny hatred, I'll look the other way on the GX470.

CrossTranny is hot garbage.

This whole offroad search is the most classic case of champagne tastes on a beer budget... just get an old vehicle a la FJ - it won't depreciate and will be cool and still pretty reliable I'm sure... or grab up a brand new low end Wrangler. That two door you suggested for me for $25k will be worth $25K in four years, so :whynot: just :doit: ? (same could be said for a nice FJ).

I think you're thinking of the Armada.

The Xterra was given the 350Z treatment of run it into the ground even though it needed a refresh 8 years ago to be competitive.
