As you can tell by now I am not here to front and discuss my flaws openly. The cross tranny is just a stop gap that checks every box and is cheap to operate. It costs the same new as a FJ used and it'll get me to almost everywhere I want to go.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:27 pm And for the love of Jesus, Mary and all the Saints, STOP talking about the Cross-Tranny as if it is anything other than a seppuku accelerant.

Here are my issues with the GX.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:25 pmYou think the first gen Lexus GX470 is a mom mobile IIRC, but if you're back at looking at Cross Tranny's stop right there, get a rig with a V8, luxo amenities, REAL 4wd with a 4 Low transfer case, drives nice on the highway.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 4:18 pm Yo, so I'll try to post up in here vs polluting general car chat...
Any other ideas on a ruggedy off road vehicle.
Preference:
1. Simple
2. under 20k
3. under 15 years old, preferably 10
4. under 130k miles
5. 4x4
6. preferably "unique"
I caught myself thinking about a stripped out Cross Tranny with a steek again. But that seems very boring for now.
V8 + at Most 12/13 mpg while it seems close to the 16/7 the v6 vehicles get it really isn’t. And I have 0 use for a 3rd row and all that immense size.
The leather on these cracks in 5/7 of them, and you have to sit on chewed up disgusting seats in my price range.
So overall it’s just even less useful for my needs than the other vehicles which are already pretty useless on the regular. And as you mentioned the styling

but I think i want something a bit newer and reliable... This is a great "beach toy" vehicle though.Apex wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 5:02 pm And then there’s this:

They were high on my list prior, but there is a weird issue where the 06-09 models are plagued with tranny issues and the 10+ are simply enormous.
It would be a sort of shitty vehicle for me though, really common, and usually way more tormented than the other options because subPrime customers.

I just can't look at it without throwing up a little. I would literally rather buy two Cross trannys than 1 GX for 19kDesertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:55 pmCream Puff

I don't understand, it's just a loaded 4 Runner. But you allow me my Cross-Tranny hatred, I'll look the other way on the GX470.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 7:56 pmI just can't look at it without throwing up a little. He's
CrossTranny is hot garbage.
This whole offroad search is the most classic case of champagne tastes on a beer budget... just get an old vehicle a la FJ - it won't depreciate and will be cool and still pretty reliable I'm sure... or grab up a brand new low end Wrangler. That two door you suggested for me for $25k will be worth $25K in four years, so :whynot: just ? (same could be said for a nice FJ).
