The Ghia seems cool as hell and actually affordable, though I'm not sure that I would actually want to drive one without substantial MODZZZ. Do they even have rack and pinion steering? IIRC the Beetle got it eventually so perhaps it's possible to add it to a Ghia.
Affordable if you can find one in decent shape. They are really cool looking and while they didn't really perform any better than a Beetle they had to have a lower center of gravity so I'd imagine they'd handle better, especially with mods. And I'm guessing your'd want a coupe over a convertible, as would I.
when they got rack and pinion steering but I believe you can retro fit a R&P rack from other VW products or even from a 356 or early 911 maybe. But the stock steering is nice, very communicating and direct. And pretty light for a
system since there's very little weight over the front tars. Kind of on the slow side
but a smaller wheel should help that. I thought about getting a small steering wheel for mine but never got around to it.
