After the trip I got new tires put on. I figured I'd wait until after the road trip. They not quite an inch taller than the K02s. Nitto Ridge Grappler 255/80/17 (33.3").

Discount tire was nice enough leave a TPMS sensor loose after doing a "complimentary TPMS seal kit replacement" so it took about 12 hours to have a full on flat with the new tires, I was pretty happy about that.

Next up was working on a plan for what to do with the tent for winter. I needed a convenient way to store it and I wanted to be bale to park in the garage for winter.

Here's what I came with: a simple lift platform, steel cables wound around a bar used to raise or lower it with a gear reduction box I can spin with a drill. I built a 6'x6' platform, loaded it up with a bunch of random crap and let it sit overnight to verify it would hold. Spin the thing up and have over 9 feet of clearance under it. I put a few heavy duty anchor points and put a couple ratchet straps for redundancy, just a little extra safety.

Testing it under load

We had a great time, we went for a wedding and turned it into a vacation. We got to see my family, my wife family, old friends in Chicago, we got to camp, hike, and offroad. It really was a good time.

I’m pretty happy with how it came out. We’re going to look into cutting out the garage door opening more and adding an extra panel to the height of the door. It’s a 7’ door now with a 12” ceiling. I’d like to do an 8 maybe 9 foot door.

Still fighting the roof rack battle. They sent the new side rails, they look good in terms of shape and the bends but they are missing powder coat in a couple spots. I contacted them and they said oh well, that’s normal. They said their cost on powder coating is only $8 so they will refund me $50 to get them recoated (quoted $140 per rail to strip and recoat at a reputable local shop because of the long length) or they will refund the product cost of I ship it back (so I’d be out $300ish on shipping it back and forth), plus they have still kept my money for the bar they did not ship.

In 4 a Ridge Grappler review. Are you going to run them in the winter or do you have dedicated snows for the T4R?

I do have dedicated snows but I’m gonna run these a while and see how they do. The K02s were not good I’m the snow. I’d like to sell the snow wheels/tires, run one set and stop storing a set in the basement at any given time.

I filed a PayPal claim, I’m not paying shipping both ways to start over from scratch.

Keep me updated. The Ridge Grapplers are interesting to me, but I don't want to have 2 sets of wheels/tires for a truck.

I’ll follow up once the snow starts to really fall and I get a change to drive the canyon for a powder day.

Sweet pics dude! (Probably late to the party). Looks like a really cool trip, road tripping is the best.

Southern Style Offraod has their 15% Black Friday sale going on, I’ll probably jump on that.
