It's essentially 5+ figures per year to consistently compete at the high end in any motorsport. You might get lucky occasionally if you try to get by on less, or you might find yourself completely fucked like I did this week.

I considered karts before buying my Z06. But with the amount of money I saw things costing I figured I could get something road legal.

So now, not only am I waiting on that backordered part, but the stock for another line that had been allocated to my order was taken to fulfill someone else's order so now I have to go buy 160 of these random connectors somewhere else. Bitches.

The only good news from my nats trip is that over 1500 miles and 6 big autox runs the car only used half a quart of oil. I think my used about that much.

Got photos from Lincoln. I was slow but at least the car looks good.

I dunno for 10k... or 12k after your modzzz this car is tough to beat... somewhat practical, fun to drive, revs to 9k, incredibly unique thanks to the BROTARY. I don't know that I'd sell it for something mundane.

It's too nice (and rust-prone) to subject to Northern winters, and too expensive to drive if it's not also being used as a competition vehicle. If we somehow avoid ending up in the North, then I'd agree with you.max225 wrote:I dunno for 10k... or 12k after your modzzz this car is tough to beat... somewhat practical, fun to drive, revs to 9k, incredibly unique thanks to the BROTARY. It is bizzare, I always wanted an RX8 (same as STI Hatch) since it came out. After driving one in one of those mazda ZOOM ZOOM events through essentially an airport converted into auto X I came out super impressed. The smoothness of the rotary, the great shifter, epic balance etc, i also really like the shape/look of the car it looks like nothing else on the road. /enddicksuckingtroyguitar wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 1:15 pmIt's too nice (and rust-prone) to subject to Northern winters, and too expensive to drive if it's not also being used as a competition vehicle. I'd almost want to say I'd buy it, at that price point I don't think i'd want anything else. It may not be the coolest vehicle around, but the uniqueness of the clamshell doors+the brotary is epic. If it wasn't for the unreliability of that motor+epic mpg, I'd probably have one myself.
I understand the living in Сибирь aspect of not wanting anything nice though. That struggle is real for sure, would hate to see it get completely fk'ed up.

Yeah it's since the value of the car is so low. Logically there is no reason to care about running it into the ground through the salt NFG. It'll still be cheaper than anything remotely as good to drive even if it is completely worthless after 5 years... yet I feel bad about doing that, doubly so since a good condition 2nd gen RX8 is already a very rare car.

Why don’t you get an actual beater? Like a mid 90s civic or something and keep that rx8 for fun.troyguitar wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 1:31 pm Yeah it's since the value of the car is so low. If I somehow have a 3 car garage to store and work on shit, then maybe? I'd still choose the $10k near-new iA over putting $5k+ into an old POS that will always need work, they'll cost the same in the long run.max225 wrote:Why don’t you get an actual beater? I won't drive something that sucks, so any vehicle ends up at $5k+ eventually. 2 sets of decent tires and a decent stereo plus deferred maintenance on anything is going to make it near or over $5k instantly.
