We have several, it's really the only reason I'd consider a German make for this kind of thing. There's one that even has a fleet of Jetta loaners for $.30/mile, so whoever is hauling the CF can take the Atlas and the other person can use that. It's :notbad:
Then I would get the MB but only for the reason that the Beak styling on what seems like a decade worth of Acuras makes me want to kill myself. The Acura Beak dude and the Lexus Spindle/Predator design guys should be hung for war crimes against good taste. Just fucked up millions of cars. Bleh.

Could be, could also be full of :ayfkm: :rage: :wasteful: moments. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I think the stalk-mounted shift selector alone will :triggered: me enough to :nope: out. So stupid.

I've poked around online and most of the repair horror stories I'm reading are related to the diesel models, but I'm still leery of an out-of-warranty MB.
Drove a C300 and a C63 cabriolet with the stock mounted gear selectors and its :wtf: at first and then becomes super intuitive.
:dat: similar to how BMW set up the shifter, press side button to pull back to D and clicks back in place. Part just to press dat button. I kinda like the column shifter doe, other than not having a place to rest my hand

Tried a Charger just for shits and giggles, and believe it or not our infant seat would not fit behind all 5'10" of me unless my knees were in the dash. The seating position sucked too, so that's out.

2012 MDX had so little 2nd row leg room it was hard to believe. Probably less than our RDX did, so it's out. No way a rear-facing infant seat was going to fit behind me.

This car - https://www.mercedesofindy.com/vehicle- ... d-14269760 - could actually work. I had to sit a little bit closer than would be ideal, but it wasn't bad at all, and all 3 seats fit just fine in the second row and it is super clean. I had to get back home for a call, but I plan on going back to drive it soon. Still want to check out a Lexus LS and a G8, but that ML350 is a real possibility. The only problem is that ideally I'd like to find one with fewer miles, but then the price starts to creep up. Then prices are close enough to the GLE refresh in 2015 that I start looking at those, and before you know it instead of a $16k car I'm looking at $26k cars. It's a disease. :wtf:

This is in fact true, but I dunno about the width. Accords come with manual and larger motors. But IIRC these sedans were all nixed because of the width problem.

Width is the issue, yep. Even if those mid-size sedans have the legroom, they're not wide enough to fit two infant seats and a convertible.

Goal is $15k, hard cap is probably $20k.

Really don't want anything as big as a Tahoe, Expedition, etc. I'd sooner drive a Sienna.

Did some more test fitting today. Accord was too small, Lexus LS was juuuuuust too narrow, Camry was a no-go and the Avalon didn't work because of how scalloped the outside rear seats are. It brought the two outside seats too far inboard once actually secured to fit a 3rd in the middle.

What did pass? 4Runner.

Haven't yet. Accord and Camry were too narrow, so unless the Mazda is wider it's not going to work. Will try to find one, doe.

4Runner back seat is seriously spacious.
Good point. Way more expensive new, but used on a yearly/mileage basis it seems they go for similar money. It's also nice that they have a 3rd row if needed in a pinch.

Biggest thing about the back seat is that it's flat and the latch anchors aren't moved inward. Makes mounting 3 child seats across the second row much easier.

Go for it if you can swing it. From everything I've heard/read, the Trail/TRD Off Road with the KDSS hydraulic disconnecting sway bars (optional) and the limited with the cross-linked dampers drive much nicer than the regular SR5 and Trail do. I think all Limiteds had the linked dampers, in addition to full time AWD. The Trail / Off Road... the discos were an option so good luck finding one used with that. Might be next to impossible without seeing each truck individually. Most dealers won't list that out.

The SR5's I drove were very quiet and calm. They plow over shit roads. Super comfy. But kind of a barge with lots of roll, dive, and lazy feeling. But I dunno. Nothing will go wrong on that thing, and resale is awesome. So even if you "overpay" for it, you'll get most of that back when/if you sell it. If you go into it knowing it isn't sporty at all, could be a really nice pick.

"Can" and "want to" are two very different things. I certainly can, but I really don't want another car payment.

I'm trying to look at this whole thing from a total cost of ownership standpoint, not just a cash outlay, though.

That Mercedes, for example. After trading in the GTI I could be out the door for all of $1,500. Cut them a check, leave, still debt free. But if I do 12k miles per year and keep that car for 5 years, now it's a 145k mile Mercedes and is basically worthless. That $16,900 car is now worth $5,000, and I'm easily at $10k+ of depreciation even though I bought a 7 year old car. On top of that I'd be dealing with more maintenance plus probably several random German engineering quirks & their related $2,000 repair bills.

Buy a $43k TRD Off-Road for say $3k off, leave with a $25k note, sure, but 5 years and 60k miles from now it's still worth close to $30k somehow. No old car shit, no unexpected repairs, nothing but fluid changes, tire rotations, and an alignment here or there.

Every used 4Runner under $25k seemingly has 100k miles on it already. :butwhy: bother? I might kill myself in something like a Pilot, even if from a cash-flow standpoint it's easier to manage and I end up in a similar spot from a net worth perspective.

Blah. The idea of another car loan makes me :rage:, even if it's for something cool like a 4Runner.

Well. The problem is they're all in rear facing seats. They can't climb in and buckle themselves up yet. If that were the case, the options would open considerably to include every 3 row crossover.
