I failed at mounting a front tube today and called uncle, dropped it at the shop. 70 bucks later..... anyway time to mount wheel, adjust brakes, break in those tires for tack day sunday.

bike did very well on its first outing. Very fun.

Lost the rear tube in the middle of the last session.

list for next event:

Reroute crank vent to a catchcan. I was weeping some oil out of seals.
re-jet the carb. PO said he did not rejet, it needs to be fattened up a bit.
Fix rear tire/tube, obviously.
new chain and sprockets, make the gearing a bit taller (8.5%)
Maybe an air filter?
Maybe higher pegs, I made touchdown once. Looking into solutions for this, since RAISING pegs on a dirt bike is not normal.

I’m assuming you’re riding knee out and not leg out. Hang off the bike more.

Even on the KTM, with rearsets, I would occasionally skim a toe or peg on the pavement. It was rare, and it was 100% caused by being lazing with riding position.

you are not wrong here, and i am getting more confident about hanging off the bike more. the CRF is TONS easier to move around on too.

Honestly my concern is not so much that it gets scraped a little from time to time, its more that the dirt bike pegs don't have those little nunbs that are made to scrape, and therefore I dont want them to catch potentially upsetting the bike & myself. Is this a stupid concern?

:sass:

point is you have tons more room to get off bike. As Trav points, scraping is from lazy cornering.

Image

look how much room is left on that guy for lean angle.

Also, "cross up as fuck" is a riding style that people use and are much faster than you or myself. Its all about angle and position and what you can control and the track layout.

I wouldn't worry about the scrape, it's not going to catch. If you're nervous about it, maybe find some peg sliders.

Also what Ted in the chat. You need to get off the bike more.

Note how exaggerated Teds body position is.

Be forewarned on the skate board wheels, I had these on the Grom when I first bought it. With enough lean angle, it’ll unload the rear enough to spin out. Ask me how I know.

:like: I plan on cutting them in half like the dude that made his sliders out of a cutting board. But I might just go look for a cheap cutting board this weekend too.
