M240i or M2 may be problems being rwd and northeast winters.
Also, I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned it before, but the R also chirps on overnight startups. I'll post a video later but when I had it in at the dillerman they claim it didn't make the noise.

Good tires make a hell of a difference.

Y you hate the zed doe? Inferior interior? I always thought they looked cool. I'd entertain one if I wanted a fun car.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 5:44 pmJohnny_P wrote: 370z

Oh solid ask Fled if they're a handful to own. If he gives it a thumbs up I'd actually go take a look at this. Solid blue and silver color combo. Those silver rams are probably bringing the price down which is excellent.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 5:49 pm I retract my previous statement. Porsche maintenance doe

They just never really did anything for me. Inferior interior doesn't help but I never thought the VQ sounded good. Always thought it sounded turrible.
Here's the startup chirp. It's been doing it forever but only when I start the car in the morning. It won't do it the rest of the day.
Last time I left it overnight at the diller they said it didn't do it.

Maybe have a friend start it with the hood open and you standing over it so you can help pinpoint the sound? It sounds like a sticky actuator of some sort.
I don't think I'd be too worried about it.
Yeah I don't think it's serious but I'll have them try and find it again next week. Not expecting much but since it's going to sit on the diller lot overnight I might as well try.

On my MK6, the clutch was screaming when it would get hot. Like, just stop and go driving it would squeal like a 20 year old datsun with original belts, it was embarrassing. Yet every time "couldn't replicate the problem." SO I took it over to North Penn, went around back to the business park behind them, threw on the e-brake and crawled up a hill repeatedly until it started to scream like it had been. Pulled it up and gave them the keys and said it's doing it now take it for a drive.
Screamed like a fucking banshee as the guy drove it off.
Some piece in the dual mass flywheel apparently broke. Got a new flywheel and clutch on VW's dime.
Moral of the story, find what's causing it, and find a way to replicate it for the service technician.

I definitely know that but I really have no idea how to replicate it other than to let it sit overnight.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 6:15 pmOn my MK6, the clutch was screaming when it would get hot. Everyone in the office says to the car. Can't possibly get any better could it?
Yeah that's what turns me off. I don't DIY and I don't have a quality indy shop nearby.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 6:28 pmI dunno if i could handle the outragous porsche maintenance costs. I still have that for M2 though. Hindsight, I should've kept my Mk6 another year or so and gotten a used M2.

Macan is second only to 911 turbo for overall cost of maintenance throughout a 4 yr/40k major service cycle.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 5:53 pmOh solid ask Fled if they're a handful to own. It may be our cheapest car to buy, but it’s not the cheapest car to own.

Gberg, you’ll be fine with some solid balls seasons for winter around here. Unless you absolutely need to be out when it’s really bad?
Some Bip AS3+ or the like should be fine.

I really like my AS3+ on the R. They performed very well in the snow but of course I'm awd.

Those prices seem pretty good to me. Go get one of those! A friend of mine owns one. He raves about it all the time. He owned an R32 a number of years ago too.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 7:30 pmYeah that's what turns me off. I don't DIY and I don't have a quality indy shop nearby.

10k oil maint service $480
20k oil maint service, brake flush, pollen filter $950
30k oil maint service, spark plugs $1050 (4cyl) or $1400 (6cyl)
40k oil Maint service, PDK trans filter and fluid, brake flush, engine air filter, pollen filter, $2200.
In that span you’ll also need front brakes at $1350 and rear brakes at $950, and a set of tires from $1200-1800 depending on size, plus $289 for an alignment. 3-4 sets of wipers at $90/set.
“But this was only a $60k car” is something I hear all the time.
Built by a luxury sports car company selling $100k versions of the same model, alongside $100-210k Panameras, $90-200k Cayennes, $100-350k 911’s... hell, a base 718 tickles $70k with minimal options now.
Nowhere in our sales process is “cheap to own and maintain” even remotely mentioned. We don’t subsidize leases or offer rebates or incentives. We don’t send out coupons for service... we offer a premium service at a premium price. It’s like the Apple tax on steroids.

I don’t know. The first gens might continue to drop because people will want the engine upgrade. But I don’t think they will plummet. People seem to want these vs the M3. But I’d use the M3 as a gauge. Figure you’ll lose $10k over 2-3 years? Seems reasonable and really that’s about the same as my STI or your R.
