Is the top perfomance spec model 3 that common? I thought that you only get the race mode if you ask for it or something weird like that.

The "dual motor" designation on the trunk lid tells the world you're packing.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:04 pmIs the top perfomance spec model 3 that common? I thought that you only get the race mode if you ask for it or something weird like that.max225 wrote:

The mid range model I am considering is also "dual motor" but it isn't the 3 second 0-60 model it is the 4.4 or whatever it is.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:08 pmThe "dual motor" designation on the trunk lid tells the world you're packing.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:04 pm Is the top perfomance spec model 3 that common? Lucky.
I'm paying about $960 a month just to get to/from work, not including the $9/gallon I pay for 100 octane in the 911 to blend with 91 octane to make 94 octane. Any road trips are extra.

It isn't but visually speaking it is identical other than the wheels which I don't care for to begin with, it comes with 20"s which are not ok for my area, I want the base 18s with 'stroyguitar wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:04 pmIs the top perfomance spec model 3 that common? Well it all depends on how much you drive. I am at 1200 miles a month right now... which is quite a bit, also I am talking my fully loaded expense structure for the lease. "owning" obviously incurs expenses as well, but I may be looking for a residence in the next 12 months other than the one I am in and 750 a month in "car payment" is frown upon, its like 200k less in what i can borrow, so I am transitioning it to cash.

I didn't count road trips, as they are currently done in rentals. I blew threw 1500 miles in 3 days in theCorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:32 pmLucky.

Pretty fair ROI though. TechBro Warrior Paycheck plus having a commute means you avoid paying 5 million dollars for a .2 acre lot with a teardown double wide on it.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:32 pmLucky.

You're also packing 50-100% more cylinders than me and something like 200-300% more hp so yea, not surprised.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:32 pmLucky.

True. My mortgage would be MUCH higher if I lived near work and my house would be much, much older and less friendly to what I like to do.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:37 pmPretty fair ROI though. On the topic of the 3, I've really gone back and forth about getting one.. seriously.
I just don't think I can support Elon in anything...

You just double his time estimates, but it is what it is at this point. He did build a gigafactory a nationwide charging network and a car most people are actually able to afford that is all electric and decent. So I'd say he hit most of his promises relatively well (outside of the Space X crap) so I'll continue giving him the benefit of a doubt here.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:48 pm On the topic of the 3, I've really gone back and forth about getting one.. seriously.

He's not going to deliver on people's model 3's turning into cash generating taxis. He doesn't believe in LIDAR and thinks he can get DOT approval? If he thinks he's going to insure these cars through the Tesla brand they will be bankrupt in no time flat.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 2:47 pmYou just double his time estimates, but it is what it is at this point. Very possible. They said the model 3 or the gigafactory and the charging network would fail. They haven't yet. So... like i said... I hope he doesn't fail. It is one of the few viable companies in the bay that actually accomplished some good.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 3:02 pmHe's not going to deliver on people's model 3's turning into cash generating taxis. I never doubted the Gigafactory or Superchargers. That's simple, as long as people are piping cash into your company faster than you can spend it. When you get to government regulations and liabilities, cash is less important than results and feels.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 3:04 pmVery possible. I think they had to go through tons of hurdles as is, I am sure they got sued by every retard that crashed on autopilot that fact that the feature is still around isCorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 3:07 pmI never doubted the Gigafactory or Superchargers. It is an american company that did in fact "disrupt" the whole "gasoline" engine powered world. I think that's not an easy feat at all. I wish them success, I don't want to see them fail.

The biggest challenge with Tesla is Tesla itself. Constantly chasing these ridiculously ambitious and likely impossible goals (like the robo taxi BS or self driving without LIDAR) is what's going to put the company under. It's grown to be a significant player, and as such needs to calm down a bit. Focus on constantly improving production quality while working on throughput. It also has a massive looming issue with service to work thought that seems to be mostly ignored so far.
I too would like to see it succeed and prove to the industry that cool EVs can be profitable and sustainable. For the most part, established OEMs are still writing the company off due to Musk's ridiculousness. Sustained profitability would flip he script.

Get an insurance quote before you buy a Tesla. Apparently they aren't cheap to insure.

My agent told me my 911 was "cheap" to insure compared to a Model S, or even a 3. They are too hard to repair.
This is why Tesla is talking about opening up a insurance division.

The base wheels look great. Split 5 spoke 18’s for around town. Throw on the aero salad shooter covers for road trips.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:33 pmIt isn't but visually speaking it is identical other than the wheels which I don't care for to begin with, it comes with 20"s which are not ok for my area, I want the base 18s with 'stroyguitar wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 1:04 pm Is the top perfomance spec model 3 that common? how the car #trackdaybro's...that's not what it's about. The fact that it's even remotely competitive with something like the M3 is to me.

Trackdaybro checking in... trackdaybros don't buy Teslas.
