Question ... I’m debating updating my :205: run shits with 215s PS4a and going -1” on the tire size ... should I do it ?

The bad part is ... the wheels I want which would also save around 30/35 lbs are :unicorn: wait 3 month :mahtroy: luck and the Michelin’s are somehow $200 a pop... :wtf: so the total is close to 2k... or do I go find an ugly oem take off wheel and throw the same $900 after install tires on them for $1400

:unicorn: wheels probably hold resale value OK and I bet you'd find the difference to be significant.

I vote yes... BUT... it's easy to spend someone else's money.

How long will you keep this car?

Get the good 17x7.5 ones and 215 PS4S. Resell them after you :plac: and they'll end up costing no more overall than the cheapo OE takeoffs.

Yep the only depreciation you'll have is from the tires. Those wheels will hold a decent value probably 75-80% forever.

So as most know, I met up with Gberg last weekend and drove his ARRRR

It has a resonator delete and a Raceseng knob. The shift knob was really nice, kind of jealous of it honestly. Anyway.

Speed wise the two felt remarkably similar to me, but the R had a wider powerband.
Brakes felt great on the R, lighter pedal than my car and had some extra boosting power as you hit into them harder. STI pedal is firmer, brakes are still great on it.
Steering wise, the STI is just king. But the R has a very quick rack that is quite accurate and easy to turn at low speed which my car isn't. Turn in was great.
Clutch is light in the R, shifter is light, both are heavier in the STI, this just comes down to personal preference.
Seats are better in the R, no surprise here. Even the GTI has better seating position than the STI.
The STI motor IMO sounds better but again this is subjective, as the R does have a nice sound when the soundaktor buzzbox is turned down.

Suspension is where the discussion takes a complete turn. The R rides great. Truly great. It handles bullshit roads well in comfort type mode, and in the firmer mode it's still softer than my car. Body control seems nicely in check too. So it's the best of both worlds. I wish this suspension was on my car. It's an upgrade from the MK6 which would just slam into the bumpstops at big impacts, and wallow around on undulating surfaces.

I enjoy the racier feel of everything else in the STI but the vastly superior suspension in the R is the killer. Just makes the dynamic range of the vehicle so much larger. I'm biased of course, but I think the STI is more fun to beat on. I think it sounds better, and it makes me smile when I'm driving the snot out of it. But I think everyone would be in agreement that the R is the easier car to live with because you can turn it off.

I love my STI. I don't think I made the wrong choice because I got exactly what I wanted at the time. R's are still too expensive for me to consider for street bash-em-up stupidity but man, a DSG R would be nice. I hope the next WRX/STI employ a similar suspension setup to this car because it's pretty much ideal. I don't see how they wouldn't, as the Type R and Si and all have adjustable dampers. I think in the current market I'd actually be most interested in a Civic Type R. If it had an automatic that is.

Yea the DSG is really not bad, and I much preferred a STI manual over a golf... call me crazy... And I was shocked how SOFT the mk 7and 7.5 rode with the adjustable suspension. Crazy.

The suspension is mighty impressive.

I prefer the STI too. But I can see why so many people like the R more. It's better at just being a car, and pretty close at being fun. Really nice package. VW doe. Gotta admit that I'm curious about a GTI. I'm just so over wheel hop and torque steer and all the understeer that comes with FWD.

I also have no idea if VW fixed the heat soak problems of the MK6. My car was useless after 10 minutes of south philly driving. I would literally drive around with the heater on full blast in the summer to get power back.

Does it help you to know mine just popped a second Check Engine light? The last one was for a fast tank sensor, but this one I'm sure is something different. If you do ever dive back in I think the extended warranty is a worthy investment.

I wanted to scan it but noticed that my dealer or one of their employees snatched my OBDEleven device. Fuckers.

Launch, probably not often. But my GTI couldn't put power down, any attempt at a quick takeoff was met with the little engine bay gnome cutting down a redwood under the hood, and the sea monster grabbing the wheels. It would also understeer itself straight off the road. The MK7 has the magic diff and all but still only 2 driven wheels with even more power.

It also had major heat soak issues. So did Lisa's Tiguan. South Philly is all stop and go repeats, slow speed shit. My car would get fully heat soaked before even getting out of South Philly in the summer. And then it was massive turbo lag and absolutely no balls, which you'd counter with more throttle, then the turbo would wake up and it was gnome and sea monster time. I'm not joking that I'd end up with windows down blasting the heater just to get some power back to make the car drive normally. Whoever thought to sandwich the intercooler between the extra hot radiator and pre-heated by the hot AC condenser was a retard.

I fucking hated that car.

Diff will not help understeer, certainly didn't help the wheel hop either. You're talking a pretty hi-po FWD car it is just the name of the game. I dunno what to say about the rest you seem to have had the worlds worst mk6 so recommending a MK7 seems completely :fullretard: because they are damn similar vehicles. You seem to prefer a subaru H4... so perhaps sticking do the devil you know makes the most sense.

I still say Crosstranny with the 2.5 is the way to go.

Ahh yess, I remember having heat soak where my mk6 basically felt like 160-170 hp. Mk7's "heatsoak" or just simply when it's hot and humid out. It's just slightly less punchy when you get on it. But barely any difference in power from the buttdyno. Thats why I installed an intercooler on my mk6 along with stage 1 and it was :tits:

Tars are the biggest factor. Those Pirelli P7's are trash and that's what comes on most GTI's. Putting a grand touring ball season on a hot hatch will be wheel hop city.

People can say whatever they want, but having owned both for extended periods of time now, the MK6 and MK7 are worlds apart.

The MK7 is down on power slightly in the hottest temps, but that's true of any car, even my STi. I wouldn't say this car is any worse than that one was, and the AC is certainly better. The GTI is way nicer to live with every day too. Much more comfortable ride, and has seats that don't abjectly suck. I sat in a 2020 STi when I had the Atlas at the dealership for its first oil change and just had that aha moment like "oh yeah, that's why I sold this car." I wish I could take the :plaid: seats from the GTI and put them in every car I'll ever own for the rest of my days.

No not yet. I'm going to double check my plugs before I embarrass myself. They seated normally and I used a torque wrench, also I've been running them for a week without a CE, so I assume an installation problem would show up right away. Aside from the light, everything is normal.
