Even if the EJ spins a rod bearing at 100k and you're looking at a new short block, a brand new Subaru short block is all of $2k. You're looking at $5k all in with shop labor, gaskets and fluids all the other ancillary crap, then that motor is good for another 100k too. Any modern BMW is going to require what - 3,4,5,6? - times that in random repair costs to get to 200k.

That's not no where did I state my car is reliable/more reliable than a STI, not that it matters considering I won't ever own it out of warranty and that's a poor person problem to have. And I also stated that I sold my last M3 due to reliability concerns.

You sold the E46, right? It was Amir with the bavarianbrubmachine?
Who actually sold his M3 for an STi.

Fair enough, no question the EJ has its problems.
I do think a lot of it is an oil weight issue, though. I know everyone here will tell me I'm , but driven hard like these cars tend to be, with oil temps that can get up into the 250s or higher, a resource conserving 5w30 developed for emissions and fuel economy standards just doesn't cut it. An oil pressure gauge in a tracked car will tell you as much. The EJ257 really needs a 5w40 or even 5w50 if it's being driven exceptionally hard.

Yea, bad combo of corporate oil guidance, vaping owners who drive hard and subpar reliability all came together it seems.coogles wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 4:40 pmFair enough, no question the EJ has its problems.

If I blew up the motor I’d get an IAG closed deck block and go for 500 AWHP.coogles wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 3:52 pm A guy with an M3 calling an STi unreliable.

Along with the dream of making the rear wing useful and not a prop that makes you look like you're trying too hard to get a spot in FF12: Same as FF1-8 but with even more redic stunts.

I need to get these shitty snow tires off this car. Been trying to scope out a spot on my street for a week now with no luck.
I should also take the saw out of my trunk. Wonder if it's damaged anything back there flopping around.

I'm thinking about just leaving the snow tires on the wife's car year round. It's still in the 20s in the morning here and supposed to snow again tomorrow.Johnny_P wrote:I need to get these shitty snow tires off this car. Been trying to scope out a spot on my street for a week now with no luck.
