How'd the Z71 handle it?
Pretty solid. It was lifted 2.5" so it had about the same ground clearance as the ZR2's. The only time it struggled was on some rock climbs where the front locker (on ZR2) made a big difference. He had to chose a different (easier) line than the rest of us, but he still got through everything with the rest of us.

They have a G80 rear right? I'd think that would scramble up just about anything in 4 low. Was he getting bounced around notably more than his gold-shock-equipped brethren?

Incorrect, the ultimate wheeling machine is the one that gets you out wheeling.

Yep, Z71 has the G80 rear. It got up most, but on steep rocky stuff with ledges or lose rocks to get over, the front spun bad...while ours went over with minimal drama. What we did was an extreme case, though...the Z71 is probably fine for 90% of wheeling for most.

The shocks made the biggest difference when we were hammering the dirt roads on the way to the trail. We were motoring at like 35-40mph, and he'd jump on the 2-way yelling at us to slow down "I'M GOING TO BOUNCE OFF THE ROAD!!!".

That's what's so neat about the hobby. You see all kinds of stuff out there, and it's rarely fancy. Our ZR2's are the fanciest in most cases by far. The people that spend the most money mall crawl. All you need is 4x4 and a sense of adventure to get out there.

Oh for sure...if you had a trailer to tow it to the trail with.

That's the problem with these dedicated rigs. They're only good at one thing. It's like that with any automotive hobby.

And I bet my truck would go most places this thing would, just requires a bit more skill
