This has the old American first class from about 15 years ago. Still a really nice plane and glad to see them getting some more miles out of them before they hit the boneyard.

This would be rough on a 7 hour journey but it's about perfect for four.
767's are old now. I just realized the first time I flew one was 30 years ago.

Anyone been to Udvar-Hazy Center?

Have to go to DC this weekend and wondering if I should spend the night to check out the museum.

I’ve already seen the Concorde (Intrepid & Sinsheim) as well as SR71/A12 (Intrepid & Atwater, CA) but I’ve heard Udvar-Hazy’s supposed to be really good.

If you are in the area it is a must. Admission is free, you just pay like $15 or $20 for parking. They also have Space Shuttle Discovery there, and you can actually walk VERY close to it.

Cool!
Hotels are surprisingly reasonable so I’ll spend the night before hitting the museum and hopefully buy a car.

Sad to see the quads being phased out in the next few years, but I’m still excited about the 777X that will replace most big boi planes.

Image

This is from the 777X’s first flight last weekend.

Flew on a Lufthansa 747-400 about a month ago and that thing was pretty tired so a new aircraft with LH’s new cabin will be a huge improvement.

:notwrong: , but I'm still gonna miss the ol' 747. It was an awesome plane in its day and looked so majestic seeing it take off and clawing for altitude over O'Hare. I remember when they first went into service; it was always an event to see one fly overhead. They were just so yuuge compared to the other 4 engined planes flying then like the 707 and DC8.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the 747 and would gladly take that over future single aisle A321/737 transatlantic flights, but most are around 25 y/o now with sad looking cabins (LH’s business..)
LH418 from FRA to IAD I took a month ago was in fact supposed to be on a 748, which would’ve been a first for me, but had an equipment change to the 744.

KLM’s 744 I rode from LAX a couple of years ago felt just as old and tired.
[user not found] wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2020 12:12 pm I flew a 747 a few months back to London. Top deck business class. Like nothing else taking off and setting down from up there.

That said, it sure isn't modern anymore. My jetlagged sucked compared to the 787s
Don’t forget the noise!
Wow an old 744 is noisy and I’ve heard the top deck is even worse.

Did a leg on a Lufthansa A350 last year and that thing was noticeably quieter.

:yikes: is that gonna be a thing? :nope:

And you're right, the more recent 747's I've flown did seem a bit tired, especially when compared with 777's, 787's, or most Airbuses.

Hey baws:

We got a downed Bombardier E-11a "BACN" - they only have 4.
The loss of the E-11A comes amid a surge in airstrikes against the Taliban, even as the U.S. government works to negotiate a peace deal with the group, which could include American troop withdrawals. U.S. military aircraft employed approximately 7,423 munitions – a total that includes both bombs and missiles – during operations in Afghanistan in 2019, the highest such figure since 2011, according to U.S. Air Forces Central Command. This follows a trend dating back to at least 2018, when American aircraft employed 7,362 munitions.

BACN has been an instrumental part of thousands of strikes already, including 7,000 in 2016 alone, according to figures the U.S. Air Force provided The War Zone with three years ago. On Feb. 14, 2017, one of the service's E-11As flew the 10,000th BACN sortie in Afghanistan.

Taliban saying the took it out with 2 pilots and 5 passengers, some "high ranking CIA officials". US mil disputes that but confirms they lost a plane.

Twitter reporting this very quickly so hard to verify. They claiming Iran stole intel and gave to milita to down the plan and who was on it with schedule.

Aer Lingus and TAP, among others, already have Europe to US routes on 321LRs.
Norwegian did too before the whole 737 Max ordill.

Eh, budget airlines don't really count.
Yeah, Norwegian can fuck off for all I care, but Aer Lingus and TAP are not low cost carriers.
Scandinavian also has 321LRs on order that will serve CPH-BOS.

Even United have been flying EWR-ARN with a 757 for several years now, even if only seasonal in the last few years.

I’ll always choose the wide body though.
