Thanks man. We spent our Trump bux wisely, IMO. One drawback to the garage gym - I’ve been freezing my off this winter lifting out there. The doors aren’t insulated and it might be 10* above ambient in there when it’s been below freezing outside. I do way less barbell training than I should with this setup, though. I’ve grown to really love kettlebells to the point that I basically only use the rack for the pull-up bar and a place to anchor the TRX bands. I deadlift and squat occasionally, throw in some bent over rows ( ) but nowhere near enough to justify what I spent. I actually signed up for some individual Pilates sessions at a studio close to the house to help with hockey (hips), so I’m most curious to try those classes and see what they’re like. My abs were sore for a full 2 days after my last hour-long session.
I’ve always done a bunch of hanging leg raises for core workouts. I don’t have anywhere indoors for them, so since winter I skipped them for a few months, first time back to them my abs were sore for days. I brought my bike with me to Road Atlanta and had a pretty neat ride yesterday after my sessions. I had created a longer loop but ran out of daylight/realized one of the roads wouldn’t have been fun.
The roads here are a blast though, some way tougher climbs than Charlotte but I was rewarded with some epic descents and great track, lake, farm, and sunset views.

Thanks, dudes! You can't really tell in my first pic, but that is a big downhill on the track coming into those two turns. I hit 141+ MPH in the coming down it and rode the bike on the service road next to it and hit 46 MPH. Both were fucking exhilarating.

Have definitely considered it, but always thought it'd be kind of a waste. Without insulated doors, any heat I put into the space is just going to get wasted. It doesn't take me long to get the blood flowing even when it's super cold out there anyway - the worst part is how cold my hands get on the kettlebells, barbell and DBs. I'm intrigued. I loved the Pivot Mach 5.5, which was a 27.5 bike with 160mm front, 140mm rear travel. It was super fun and I want one but can't justify over $6k for a fucking bike. The last day of week 5 of the intro program was a 30 minute “intervals with arms” day. Surprisingly I didn’t hate the arms bit. It was about 6 minutes long, and I kept moving at ~180 watts for all of it, while still doing all the arm shit with my wimpy little 10 pound weights. What a crazy burn, though, and it definitely kept the heart rate up.
I’ll be super if I don’t hit 200 watts for my next FTP test. I averaged 186 on this ride despite the warmup, the added arm work and the cool down.

I'll try. I hopped on one at my local LBS and it's a bit of a slug. It's a borderline chair lift bike, IMO. If you're in the mountains and have some chunky sections where you're hitting 30 mph I'm sure it's great, but in areas where you need to make your own speed, I don't think it's going to be very much fun. For some reason the LBS dude recommended I hop on a Supercaliber 9.7 after I got off the Trance, and hoooooly fuck. Those things FLY. Every ounce of energy into the pedals propels them forward with insane speed, and the contrast riding the two back to back was more jarring than I could've imagined. The 69* head angle would get me in way too much trouble on my local trails, but it made me realize I'd have way more fun on something less "capable" but more efficient - hence my interest in the Ripley. Ah hmm. I have not ridden a trance for any appreciable time. I could see that being the case sadly. Our trails here are rideable on a steel rigid CX bike so I def don’t “need” more than like 120 f/r, I just kinda want a fun plush bike. I honestly don't have enough experience with different mountain bikes to say. The one more modern 27.5 Giant I rode that belongs to a friend was soooo different than my Orbea. It felt like it wanted to launch into the air over every bump but really sucked for pedaling up a hill or even flats. It wasn't a Trance so
Yeah, it is probably "less fun" but I actually like it... I am not really seeking an adrenaline rush, I am a pretty shitty MTB rider and like having something better for longer distances, gravel, riding to trails, etc. since I'm really not trying to get sick air regardless. It really helps to have a shop willing to tune the suspension right before you ride it, that's the tough part.
I will say, my Orbea feels HUGE on the tight northeast trails and also the tight punchy Florida stuff, because it is a big bike. But man, it felt at home down in Texas.
