I need to order another set of crank bros pedals. I retired the eggbeaters after 10 years but haven't bought replacements so I'm just swapping them between the dirt bikes. Which is annoying.

Agreed.coogles wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 11:26 amPersonally I never found anything that was as remotely as comfortable as a set of even the lower end Sidis, but YMMV. A good clipless setup is definitely worthwhile.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:45 am I decided to go and ordered some SPD pedals last night. My stock pedals feel like the bearings are made of gravel and none of my shoes work well for riding anyway. Still need to decide on a shoe to try, but I was surprised at how cheap pedals can be - looks like the shoes will cost more than the pedals.
I bought low end Sidis 9 years ago, and they're still going. I've beat the hell out of them and they're fine...I've tried other shoes, and have yet to find a pair I like better than my ancient Sidis.
Clipless pedals (SPD) will change the game. You'll be amazed how much easier it is to put power down.

If I ever make it down to Brown county, I'll hit you up.

Sidis are too narrow for me. Most comfy shoes I ever had were Mavics. My beat to shit Specialized shoes for MTB are really good though, but falling apart, and the new ones don't breathe at all.Detroit wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 12:41 pmAgreed.

Everyone says Sidis are too narrow...which is interesting because my feet run wide. I must have got a freak pair.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 12:52 pmSidis are too narrow for me. I was hoping to find basically anything but black, looking at random crap on Amazon for $50 but no clear winners thus far. #racist[user not found] wrote:Don't need anything crazy, you can find shoes in the $100 range.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:45 am I decided to go and ordered some SPD pedals last night. I recommend shoes with an actual ratchet strap or boa strap vs. just velcro - you'll get a better hold and less give when pulling up on the pedals.
When you set the pedal cleat up - you want the cleat to be positioned so that the pedal axle runs right under the inner ball of your foot.
Why the hell cyclists seem to want to be out in the sun all day wearing all black is beyond me.

It doesn't make much difference on jerseys or bibs actually because they're so thin. But on shoes, yeah. Brighter colored shoes do run a bit cooler. Be wary of white, they get dirty asf super easily.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 1:25 pmI was hoping to find basically anything but black, looking at random crap on Amazon for $50 but no clear winners thus far. #racist[user not found] wrote:

Mostly looking for light color(s). I don't care if they get dirty.[user not found] wrote:If it's color you're after: https://www.jensonusa.com/Scott-MTB-Premium-Shoes
I wear white shoes on the road, gray on the MTB.

Without actually riding anything, I kind of want this one in teal:

Swap the 11-32 cassette with a 10-42 and have a nice full range of gears in a simple and sexy package.
In other news, my stem came in today along with a random used carbon saddle to try for the hell of it. Dunno if I'll have time to try it tonight but it at least seems promising sitting on the bike here.

Crockett rides a bit harsh as it’s a CX race bike. The revolt will probably ride smoother and be more high speed stable. One advantage to the CX bike is they usually have a steeper head tube angle so they’re more maneuverable off road.troyguitar wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:37 pm

Let's brap!
I really want to get down to Terre Haute too. Sounds like they've put a bunch of time into building the trail network down there.

Griffin Bike Park is now fully open with more than 16 miles of single track, and a skills park featuring 4 jump lines, a dual slalom track, 2 pump tracks and multiple skinnies. Construction continues on even more trails and features.
More than seventeen miles of singletrack trails are ridable at present, as are a pump track, dirt jumps and water features including a floating bridge trail and lake jump ramp.
Griffin Bike Park is a national-caliber riding area and recreational tourism destination for Vigo County in Terre Haute, Indiana. The 300-acre Griffin Bike Park is designed to provide riders from all backgrounds, ages, skills and abilities with a wide range of exciting riding opportunities.
The 300-acre progression-based bike park now includes:
-sixteen-mile purpose-built trail system

I have no use for another roadie, but a LBS here became an All-City and they have a Cosmic Stallion in my size right now. I want it just to look at.

85% of my love for steel bikes is in the thin tubing and paint jobs that AC does. 15% is the “ride quality of steel.”coogles wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 9:13 amFuck that's gorgeous.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:00 pm Crockett rides a bit harsh as it’s a CX race bike. The galaxial unicorn certainly is a nice bike. I don’t like the spec this year the gold and black one was WAY better spec’d.

I started using strava again and I feel slow as molasses compared to 2015. Balls. I now don’t have an appropriate bike for the more intense road riding either. What do? Ain’t care or shop roadies that are more comfy than the Cervelo was?
