I'll be keeping my bike in conshy come fall. Then I'll be able to do wiss a lot.
Dem bicicletas, doe
They're only about $150 so it's not bad at all. Install is what scares me.
Also not a fan of the hitch coming out the back but I guess it's better than the rack taking 4-5 mpg off my highway mileage and all the wind noise.

Muddy bikes do not a Zilspec car make.
And you haven't seen my bike stuffed into the back of the R. It's not as big as you'd think. Or my bike is just massive.

I dunno, I live a simpler life I guess. I'd throw a towel down if I was worried about mud (I'm not) but I get it. You have added chance of scratching an interior panel or something too.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 12:16 pmSome people care about the inside of the car?

But I wouldn't accept "can't bring my bike anywhere" just because I didn't have some special rack for it when I know it'll fit inside. We all love the GTI for it's hauling abilities, ability to carry an absurd amount of stuff from Ikea, Mario's latest washing machine hauling, etc. I don't see the bike as anything other than a piece of cargo.

The entire point of the hatchback is to put things inside it. I put my MTB in the back of my MKV and MK6 all the time. I kept an old sheet back there that I used to cover the interior parts to keep them from getting dirty. Worked 5/7.

My Trance just barely fits and it's only a medium. I have to move the passenger seat all the way up and the back tire is still buried in the back of the seat, then I have the wedge the bars into the lip of the hatch to keep the bike from sliding back toward the glass. This bike as a 29er or a large or XL probably wouldn't fit. Dat lower, longer geometry, doe?
I put the Trance in the back of the STi on top of a moving blanket each time I went riding, but I don't think I'd do it in the GTI considering how crammed it is.

I have a 29er with an XL frame. The handlebars were resting on the armrest near the shifter or around my shoulder when it was squeezed in. It's not just take the wheel off and toss it in. It barely fits and does so uncomfortably.
It doesn't help that the Mk7 is giving up a couple inches in trunk length to the Mk6 too.
I'm not anywhere near [user not found] spec but still would never stick my muddy mountain bike in my car. That said, I make bike transport work with a Corvette as my only car, so it shouldn't be a huge task with a Golf. I really should throw a hitch on the Kamry, the install looks annoying .
Given my current knee issues, I can't squat as much as I'd like to so I'm looking for leg workout alternatives. Hypothetical situation: I start biking for my commute to work. What brands should I look at? Ideally, in the used market too (Hartford, CT, if people are bored and feel like shopping CL for me too).
The panda hath arrived.

If you want a commuter bike, something with room for fenders and slightly fatter tires would be the ideal move.
Commuting is likely the only scenario, unless I fall in love with it. I would definitely need something that I could put saddlebags (?) on in order to bring change of clothes, work bag, lunch, etc. daily.

I like cyclocross bikes for commuting. They can take fatter tires and many/most can take fenders and racks.

Honestly, not sure given this is still in the hypothetical phase. I haven't talked to my wife about it yet. Let's say $500 for now?

In road bike world I think you should be looking for a 56-58cm. This will probably be way too small.Jaxper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 1:50 pm How's this?
